An end of an era and a change to the Nunholm landscape. The old railway bridge on Nunholm road has gone! So that drink from the bar has not gone to your head and that really is the sky where the bridge used to be.
APD Dumfries set their sights on a new season
29 02 2008Dumfries Cricket Club start their outdoor practices at JMS Nunholm with a training session for the first team squad this Saturday, the 1st of March, at 1pm.
Last season the side, APD Dumfries, had a late season run to take them to the edge of the promotion places in Division 2 of the Lloyds TSB Scotland National League and finish in a good fourth place position.
This season, new skipper, Aussie Scott Beveridge is out to bring his country’s winning ways to the campaign and for the club to remain as contenders for promotion as they have managed over their first two years at national level.

Nunholm Squash Masters go North
26 02 2008The Scottish Masters Closed Championships are on this weekend in Aberdeen and will have a strong representation from the Nunholm Squash Club.
Sue Strachan in the over-35 and over-40′s women’s competitions hopes to be well placed and has a full weekend with five tough matches to play. Les Harkness is the club’s sole representative at over-40′s and Jim Wells moves on to join Ronnie Carter in the over-45′s in the largest of all the age group draws. Abbie Robertson hopes to catch the eye of the selectors at over-65 and Davy Rogan ,who is the reigning Scottish champion and number 1, hopes to hang on to his title despite strong opposition by “the young guy” in the draw who is “only 70″! The club wishes them good luck in their trek north.

Scotland’s John Blain, as their Cricket Manager will be selling cricket gear from Gilmour Sports of Glasgow (hockey and cricket specialists), at the club on Saturday, the 8th of March, from 1pm. Further details here.

Temporary closure of Nunholm Road
25 02 2008This might only affect weekend night-owls or early-birds.
D&G Council has made an order to close Nunholm road on one day only from midnight to 8am on a Sunday on either the 2nd March, 9th March, or 16th March. The temporary closure will be at the railway bridge to remove the bridge deck. Pedestrian access will be possible.

Scotland Bowling Masterclass at Nunholm – Sat 8th March

John Blain of Scotland, Yorkshire and Northamptonshire will be taking a coaching session for invited younger players of Dumfries CC on Saturday, March 8th starting at 11:00 in the morning. [Photo © CricketEurope]
The club have asked him to visit Dumfries to give the many promising youngsters at the club some advice and inspiration from his experience of the professional game before their season starts in earnest. Squash junior clubnight dates
23 02 2008Please note that the squash junior clubnights will NOT take place on the Sunday nights listed below. The dates involved are mostly over the Easter and school holidays.
2nd March, and the 23rd March, 30th March and 6th April.
They will resume on Sunday the 13th April, the day before going back to school.

The Club Management Committee hope that this will provide useful and interesting information on the club as a whole and on the goings-on within each of the club’s busy sections, cricket, hockey, running, squash and tennis.
One of the aims is to communicate more readily with the club membership and between the sections and to develop the identity of the Dumfries Sports Club within the club and to visitors and new members.
