APD Dumfries played Langholm in their first game in the new National 20/20 competition on Monday night. They played Langholm away in the Murgitroyd Borders 20/20 and won by 9 wickets chasing 67. Chris McCutcheon and Richard Rennie figured with 4 and 3 wickets respectively. Scott Beveridge thumped 43 not out for a comfortable win. The side now move on to the semi-final. The Borders winners will be one of 4 teams in the Scottish finals day in Glasgow and will receive a cash prize.
The firsts lost their first league fixture at SMRH on Saturday. Bellwood (35) and Geary (31) put on a fifty opening stand but the innings tailed off and a total of 161 all out wasn’t enough. The SMRH pro scored 91 not out and that meant a 7 wicket loss.
The seconds had a day to forget away against Meikleriggs. A persistent bowling effort claimed 8 wickets as the opposition scored 240 plus. Trevor Newport took 4 wickets in 4 overs. The batting collapsed in reply to some good opening bowling. The total seems to have been erased from the collective memory!
Nunholm hosted a game between D&G under 13s against Border under 13s on Sunday and they had a narrow loss in an excellent game. John Dunbar and Niall Alexander reduced the opposition to four down for very little but the side couldn’t maintain the pressure and they recovered to a heathy 138 for 8. Owen Thompson starred in the reply with a fine 64 but couldn’t get his side over the line as they fell ten runs short after looking favourites.
