The winter leagues for October are up and can be found here, Club Squash Leagues (Or by following the Quick Link at the top right of the page under the link for booking courts).

We will retain the normal scoring for the Winter leagues that is point on serve to 9 then at 8 each a choice of one or two to be decided by the player at 8 first.

Nunholm Squash Club which is part of the premier multi-sports facility based at Dumfries Sports Club is offering an open invitation for anyone to come and try out RACKETBALL.

The club have organised 2 “COME AND TRY” evenings at the club the first on Thursday 2nd October from 7pm. All equipment will be provided to try out RACKETBALL and Davy Douglas of BACKSWING will be in attendance with demo rackets and balls.

Everyone is welcome and potential new members will be able to see what other facilities the club have to offer such as fully equipped gym, 4 floodlight tennis courts, and lounge bar facilities.

RACKETBALL is one of the fastest growing sports today and has the benefit of being played on a standard squash court – to which Dumfries Sports Club have 4 and of those, 3 have just gone through a process of refurbishment to a high standard. Read the rest of this entry »

Junior squash restarts at Nunholm

The popular Junior Squash Clubnight has restarted at Nunholm Squash Club and takes place on Sunday nights between 7pm and 9pm.

The club has been lucky enough to have had a good crop of juniors coming through over the last few years. The most recent success on a National level saw Steven Wallace and Jordan Currie being ranked in the Top 10 in Scotland in their respective age groups. The squash club night for juniors restarts this Sunday, the 28th September, 7pm-9pm.

All sports club junior members welcome.

Eye protection and refreshments provided. New parent consent forms will be issued. For further information contact Raymond Currie.

The Squash Annual General Meeting takes place in the clubhouse on Monday 6th October 2008 at 7.00pm.

All members are invited to attend the meeting. Your input will help take the club forward and new members to the committee are most welcome. Come along and make your point and get involved. It is your club after all and the committee only aim to improve it on your behalf.

The present committee would like to welcome you at the meeting with a free glass of wine or soft drink.





Tennis Ladders start 1st October

NEW: Tennis ladders are starting from the 1st October. There will be ladders for Men, Ladies and Juniors. Players just have to put their names, with contact numbers, on the appropriate list which is up in the main foyer of the Clubhouse. Subsequently people can just add their names if interested.





Lloyds TSB Scotland Prize Winners at Nunholm

A dozen of the younger players from Dumfries Cricket Club received top quality coaching from Cricket Scotland coaches at a prize winning session at the Nunholm ground last Thursday.

Dumfries CC were one of two clubs in Scotland to win a coaching session, in a Lloyds TSB Scotland promotion, which was attended by the Manager of the Dumfries branch, Tom Armstrong. 

The squad for the Coatbridge Cold Store Colts who play in the local John Henderson & Sons Midweek League were given expert advice and video analysis from Cricket Scotland’s National Community Development Manager Steve Paige, Iain Stewart and Josh Johnston.

They now have much to work on for next year during their off-season training this winter.

Just when bats are being thrust away to languish for the winter two young Dumfries CC cricketers are instead packing them for use in Australia. First eleven players Alan Davidson and Richard Rennie are off to experience a season of cricket Oz style.

Alan heads for New South Wales and the Wallsend Tigers club in Newcastle. Dumfries has long standing connections with the club including this season’s skipper Scott Beveridge, and Brett Jackson who starred for Dumfries two seasons ago, both of whom were  Wallsend players, as surprisingly was the current England keeper Tim Ambrose.  Read the rest of this entry »

Successful Dumfries Kwik Cricket Squad at Stirling

Cricket Scotland held the annual U10 Kwik Cricket Festival at Stirling last Sunday with teams from throughout Scotland attending. Dumfries were grouped with Stirling, Ayr, Drumpellier and Clydesdale, all formidable clubs, and acquitted themselves extremely well winning all their games and with everyone enjoying the day. APD Dumfries at the Scottish 20/20 Finals

Final hurdle the problem for APD Dumfries: APD Dumfries finished season 2008 in a respectable fourth place in National League Division 2. In the process they lost twice to the league winners, Stoneywood-Dyce, once to the side that came second, Dunfermline, once to the side above them in third, Corstophine, and a damaging loss to SMRH who finished eighth. There was the exciting one wicket win over Dunfermline in May but that was the only win over the eventual top three. Read the rest of this entry »
