Hockey: Captain’s report for 2009/10

With the loss of eight players, including top goal scorer and player of the season, this was always going to be a hard season, writes John McCoskry, Dumfries Men’s Hockey club captain 09/10.

This was evident in our opening four games where we were over five players short and subsequently lost 19 goals with only two in response – one of our worst ever starts to the season.

Things started to look up after the fifth game, it was at home to Kelburne and our first with a full squad. We romped home with a convincing 5 – 0 win. This we followed up with a 2-1 home win to Ayr. Read the rest of this entry »





Tennis: Hard fought win for Dumfries

Dumfries B Gents gained their first victory of the season with a hard fought 4-0 result against Beechgrove (Moffat).

In the other match Castle Douglas and Dumfries A contested an exciting match with nine long sets being played out before Dumfries A gained the upper hand to seal a 2-1 victory.

Ladies: Only a couple of results were received this week with Dumfries B involved in both matches. In what was their best performance of the season, Dumfries B entertained Castle Douglas in a match which lasted long into the night.

The match finished 2-2 with Castle Douglas winning overall, having won more sets over the four matches.

In the other match, Dumfries A gained a much needed victory over Dumfries B with the final score being 3-1.

The men’s fixtures this week have a top of the table clash with Dumfries A entertaining Dalbeattie and in the other match Beechgrove travel to Castle Douglas.

In the ladies league Dumfries A and Dumfries B travel to Dalbeattie B and Dalbeattie A respectfully with Castle Douglas heading to Moffat to face Beechgrove.
