With only ten players travelling and tropical weather conditions Dumfries were faced with a challenging opening match against a young Hillhead team.

Good linking play from midfield and attack led to some early opportunities that threatened the Hillhead keeper and gave Dumfries a strong start. For first twenty minutes they continued to test the defence and Topping won an early corner for the side, which was unlucky to not produce a goal.

Hillhead then applied pressure for the remainder of the half and used their extra player well to expose the gap in midfield and over load the defence. Dumfries were a little rusty to start with and although camped out in the visitors half were unable to convert any of the chances they had in the first 15 minutes.

However when Janet Stainsby scored the first goal it gave a little bit of confidence and soon some great team play was to be seen. This had the opposite effect on the visiting side who just could not contend with the skilful passing of the Dumfries side.
