Club Logo
The new club logo (you’ll have seen it at the top of recent notices on the notice-board) was selected by your Committee after the membership poll failed to provide a decisive preference. Estimates are currently being sought for embroidered Club Polos, T-shirts, etc.
Off-Peak Pricing – the Sports Club’s Management Committee approved the squash committee’s proposals for the introduction of off-peak squash court pricing. Effective 1st October off-peak periods (the morning, mid-afternoon and late evening) will be priced at £1.00 per player. There will still be free courts after 6pm on weekends, or you can book these courts for £0.20. Peak-period court fees will, however, be increased to £1.70 per player, the first increase in nearly 4 years as our proposal needed to be revenue-neutral.
Court 3’s maintenance and renewal programme also got the go-ahead from the Sports Club Committee. Work includes a new floor, the front wall re-plastered and the side and back walls patched as required and repainted. The works are scheduled for the w/c 18th October in preparation for the start of the D&G Leagues and our Masters Tournament.
Winter Squash Leagues start in October and the sign-up sheet is on the notice-board. Please note that the £3 entry fee is due by 30th September and payable at the Bar. If you don’t pay, you don’t play!
Racketball Leagues are also starting in October and sign-up sheet is on the notice-board.
Club Nights
- Monday nights from 6-9pm
- Saturday afternoons from 2-5pm
Club Nights are for players of all standards and ages. Format is one game PAR to 15 and you’ll play 2 games before waiting your next turn on court. Cost is £1.50 per night. On Saturday afternoons we’ll also be offering racketball for those players who may be interested to give it a try!
Junior Club Night Re-launch on Saturday evenings commencing 18th Sept. from 5-7pm. Cost is £1.00 per night for members and £2.00 per night for non-members.
The Junior Club Championship is scheduled for Saturday 2nd October. Entry sheet on notice-board.
Squash Coaching sessions for October (with Jimmy Wells and Jim Scriven) will be posted on the notice-board next weekend. Limited to 2 participants per session they are available on a first-come first-served basis.
Scottish Squash & Racketball (SSR) Update
- John Dunlop, the new CEO of SSR, will be visiting the Club on Tuesday 5th October from 7pm in the Farries Suite – all welcome to attend.
- Refereeing/marking course scheduled for Saturday 9th October in the Club from approx. 10.30-2.30pm being conducted by Ron Pearman, President of SSR (places still available – see notice-board)
- South of Scotland Masters Open Squash Championships being held at the Club on 19th-21st November. Courts closed to members all weekend.
Tournament Updates:
- Doubles Tournament was won by Chris McCutcheon and Raymond Currie very closely over Jimmy Wells and Steven Forsyth.
- Borders Masters Challenge 2010 – the Club lost narrowly to Carlisle Squash Rackets Club last weekend.
- Stonehaven Masters – the first Masters tournament of the Scottish Squash Masters Circuit kicks off next weekend, 24-25th Sept.
I hope you are all getting fit and ready for the start of the Winter Leagues and later in the month, the D&G League matches.
