Dumfries CC batsman Tom McBride is packing his bags for a pre-season training camp in South Africa with Scotland U19s. The Under-19 squad have a two week training camp in Potchefstroom near Johannesburg over the end of March and the beginning of April.
There they will continue their preparation for the August U19 World Cup finals in Queensland, Australia where Scotland, after winning the qualification tournament last year, has been drawn against four time winners, Pakistan, New Zealand and fellow Associate side, Afghanistan.
The South African tour will involve a series of seven games alongside a schedule of training sessions and team coach, former Scotland captain, Craig Wright says “the squad will have a limited time together during the summer so this is pivotal to their preparation for the World Cup and to be able make an impact in the tournament“.
Meanwhile Dumfries Cricket Club senior and junior pre-season sessions continue with senior training on Saturday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 at the Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm. New players of all ages, senior and junior, are welcome at the club for the 2012 season with the first games starting in the middle of April.
