Come Try!……RACKETBALL on 14 Nov

29 10 2010

The UK’s fastest-growing racket sport
Suitable for all ages
Have fun and get fit!

Racketball is played on a squash court with a bigger, bouncier ball and a bigger but shorter racket than those used for squash. You will run about a lot and get a really good work out – at least until you get better.

It’s a game suited to all ages and abilities, male and female, from beginners to the squash or tennis player who wants a fun alternative, and to the experienced player who wants to continue to play a slightly easier on the body but competitive sport.

With long rallies, racketball offers a fantastic aerobic workout and is a great fat burner! Many major muscle groups are used so it’s also great for shaping and toning the body. Whether you are new to the world of rebound racket sports, or an experienced squash or tennis player, you are guaranteed to enjoy racketball.

Free “Taster” sessions at Dumfries Squash Club
On Sunday 14th Nov 2-5pm

Come along and see what the racket is all about! Rally up your friends, and give it a try – it’s indoors so no need to worry about inclement or cold weather.

All equipment is provided, all you need to bring is a pair of trainers (not black-soled please) and plenty of energy.

We’ll even throw in a bit of coaching of the basics if you need it.

Places are limited. View the poster here.

E-mail us at info@dumfriessquashclub.co.uk or call the Club on 01387 252527 to register a reserved place, or just turn up on the day although you may have to wait.

Membership referral programme

13 05 2010

Dumfries Sports Club has just introduced a membership referral scheme which enables existing members to benefit from the introduction of new members to the Club.

During the past 18 months’ recession and general financial-tightening, the Club has strived to contain operating costs and expenses in order to maintain reasonable value-for-money membership fees.

The Club also recognises that an increasing membership can help mitigate increased costs outwith our control and as such to encourage existing members to spread the “word” about our Club it is offering a referral fee for successful membership introductions.

Referral fees will take the form of either a voucher for use as a credit against next year’s membership fees, or as a credit to the member’s account for use towards court fees.

So spread the “word” about your Club. For full details see here!

New Year at the Dumfries Sports Club

24 02 2010

The 2010 membership week at the Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm starts this weekend. This provides the opportunity for existing members to renew their annual membership and provides a good opportunity for new members to join. Adults, juniors and family members are welcomed by the club.

The club offers tennis, squash, cricket and gym facilities and is the home for Dumfries Tennis Club, Dumfries Squash Club and Dumfries Cricket Club. The facilities are also used by Dumfries Running Club and Dumfries Hockey Club.

In preparation for the summer seasons junior sport is already well underway on Saturday mornings with 4 junior tennis coaching sessions for different age groups and cricket training sessions for the club’s 18′s. This year the club has also introduced squash coaching for those wanting to learn and improve their game which is proving to be popular.

The club’s squash competitions are nearing their final stages with the 3rd round of the Jim Thorburn handicap being completed this week with numbers having been whittled down from the original entry of 52. The finale to the season, the Club Finals night, takes place on Friday the 16th April and Nunholm is also the venue of the U-30 Dumfries and Galloway Closed Squash Tournament which takes place this weekend on Friday and Saturday.

The membership week runs from Saturday 27 February to Friday 5 March. More details are available at www.dumfriessportsclub.co.uk.
