A Dumfries charity that supports people affected by stillbirth held a race night to raise funds recently.
Sands (Stillbirth and neonatal death society) held the race night at Dumfries Sports Club in Nunholm to raise the profile of the Dumfries branch, and raised £500 in the process. Read the rest of this entry »
Saturday 4th July. STARTING AFTER THE WIMBLEDON WOMENS SINGLES FINAL (Approx 4-30 to 5pm start)
All Dumfries Sports Club members are invited to take part in the BBQ & Bubbles Mixed Doubles Tournament.
This is a free to enter tournament with a BBQ, food and drink available to buy courtside, during and after the tournament.
This is a fun and friendly mixed doubles based competition, providing we get enough ladies, where we will pair partners depending on their ability.

The Squash Open Day at Nunholm takes place this Saturday, the 23rd May, from 12 noon to 5pm.
This takes place on World Squash Day and marks the world-wide campaign to get squash included in the 2016 Olympics.
It is free squash and racketball for all and exhibition matches involving the club’s Scottish Masters Internationalists start at 2pm.
A 3 man team competition will run throughout the afternoon. Registration is at the club at 12 noon. Entry is free.
The aim for the day is to give those who have not tried squash an opportunity to have a go. Specifically it is open to non Sports Club members! Eye protection for junior players and rackets will be available along with some refreshments.
May the 23rd is World Squash Day and for this year is rebranded as Squash 2016 Day to support the Olympic bid. More information is available on the official website squash2016.info and there is an opportunity for squash players to get involved on www.worldsquashday.com.
The Olympic initiative is backed by Scot Peter Nicol, former World no 1, “If I’d been given the opportunity, I would have been there. My four Commonwealth Games gold medals were my best achievements as a squash player. So I can only imagine what it would be like to be an Olympian, it would be the highest honour in the squash world.”
Nunholm Squash Club is planning an Open Day on Saturday 23rd May to promote squash in Dumfries but also to support Squash 2016 which is a world wide initiative to get the game of squash included in the Olympics in 2016.

The aim for the day is to showcase exhibition matches between some of the club’s Scottish Masters Champions but also to give those who have not tried squash an opportunity to have a go.

The Tennis Open Day held last Sunday to invite people to come down and try the courts was a success, despite a chillier outlook than hoped, with as many as 20 new juniors having a hit at the club for the first time.

Try Tennis in Dumfries
SUNDAY 26TH APRIL: Starting at 10AM & continuing into the afternoon.

Dumfries Sports Club is holding a tennis open day. All members & Non members of any age & any standard are welcome to come along and try out the club tennis courts.
The club tennis coach will be on-hand between 10 & 12pm to hold practise sessions as well as offering tips & advice on how to improve your game.
There will be a prize draw raffle which is open to everyone & from 12pm onwards food & drinks will be available.
To finish the day we will be holding a free to enter, open doubles tennis competition, with everyone welcome to enter, no matter what their skill level is.
BBQ from 12pm with snacks and drinks available court side.

The event will see the full presentation of trophies following another successful John Henderson & Son Dumfries & Galloway Squash Leagues for the 2008-09 season. All team captains are encouraged to get as many of their team at the dance.
The annual Dumfries Cricket Club dinner is this Friday at 7pm followed by the Club Awards in the pavilion at 9pm and there is still time to organise your tickets.

The annual Squash Dance is scheduled for Saturday 25th April from 8pm till late. Live band for the evening is Full Tilt. Tickets available at £5 from the bar or contact team captains or Raymond Currie on 07515 994172.
Dumfries went into Saturday’s game against Hillhead filled with confidence after getting back to winning ways last week, in a tough fought game away to Ayr.
A solid squad of 13 players were hopeful of getting a good result and continue their progress in the league.
