Juniors

There are plenty of options for juniors at the Sports Club and through the different sports sections. Some of these are outlined below. For more information on sports for kids throughout the year look out for new posts under the “juniors” category.

Junior cricket

Squash

The squash section have a junior night on Sundays during the winter squash season with free court time.

Junior members also have special rates for court usage at specific times. Look out for notices at the club!

Tennis

We have a strong junior structure in place with coaching for all ages from the very young to secondary school age.

We have a good, and increasing, number of juniors of all ages. There are junior teams in different age groups competing in the South of Scotland LTA National Club League.

Our tennis coach is Colin Dunbar who is able to provide coaching for all ages and standards. Regular coaching groups are held and individual coaching can be arranged. Colin is a fully qualified DCA coach.

Junior Club Nights take place on Thursdays from 5pm-6:30pm, are aimed at ages of 10 upwards (or younger if can play a game) and involve singles and doubles play. The sessions are supervised by qualified coach Daniel McKiddie. Cost is £1.50 per person. For details contact Daniel on 01387 256260.

Cricket

The cricket section have a strong junior set-up. They are an accredited TopClub as controlled by Cricket Scotland. This is an assessment of the junior development and procedures which are in place.

Junior cricketThroughout the cricket season there is junior coaching on Monday nights for the youngest cricketers and further coaching sessions during the week for the older age groups. Age groups range from Under 10, Under 13, through to playing adult cricket. Junior matches for Dumfries are played locally during the season at different age groups and the club has performed well at the Scottish National Kwik Cricket festival.

With selection possible for the Dumfries and Galloway teams, and then for the West of Scotland, some of the club juniors have subsequently gone on to represent Scotland.

Junior cricket

There is an annual junior cricket fun day at the club and Cricket Scotland hold a regional 3-day cricket workshop during the summer holidays. The local council also hold cricket introduction  courses during the summer which use the Dumfries ground as one of the venues.

Club

There is a family friendly lounge available in the clubhouse which also provides the juniors with an essential education on the pool table.
