The semi-finals brought together Finite Engineering v D & C Lindsay Forestry and Peter’s Fish and Chicken Bar v The Bard Vet team.

After the dust had settled it was the teams of Finite and Bard Vet who were to contest the final.

The format in the cup is of three games American scoring to 15 with a two-point float after every game which has proved to produce some very close matches in the past, none more so than in the final.

At five, the Bard Vet team got off to a bad start as Graeme Fraser for the Finite team took no prisoners as he defeated George Burnie 3/0.

This advantage was short lived as Peter Lean redressed the balance with a 3/0 win over a tired looking Jock Glendinning who had been made to battle hard in his semi-final match.

Mike Service and Gary McKean had a close match before the superior fitness of Gary told and he ran out the 2/1 winner.

Man of the match Davy Rogerson certainly took the fight to a shell-shocked Andrew Morrow who struggled to cope with the court coverage and anticipation of Davy and was most welcome of the 4/0 start in the third game having lost the first two.

Andy had to dig deep to win the all important third to keep Finite in with a chance of winning the cup.

With the scores at 6/6 it was left to Robin Ridley (Bard Vet) and Les Harkness (Finite) to decide the outcome of the cup.

Robin started strongly and took the first game after which Les started to take control and levelled it at 1/1, so it was down to the very last game, Robin tried to rush Les into making mistakes but Les was hitting more winners than mistakes and deserved his 2/1 victory.

After a great afternoon’s squash it was Finite Engineering who retained the trophy for a second year.

Dumfries and Galloway Standard

With the final few matches to be played it looks like Finite Engineering and Bard Vet will progress from League One and DC Lindsay Forestry and Peter’s Fish and Chicken Bar from League Two.

The semi-finals and final will be played at the Nunholm courts on March 29 commencing with the semis at 3pm with the final at 5pm.
