Tennis

Dumfries Tennis Club is the main club in South West Scotland and has operated from the Nunholm grounds for well over a hundred years.

It still retains its family atmosphere and offers something for every standard of player.

The four courts are all weather synthetic grass with full floodlighting.

There is a courtside pavilion with a small kitchen, changing and toilet facilities.

Summer Club Nights

Dumfries Tennis Club Open Day

The club currently runs two club nights through the summer months.

Mixed Monday nights are run from April until September and are open to all senior and selected junior members who have the ability to play doubles matches.

The sessions start from 6-30pm and run until approximately 8-30pm but can be extended if numbers are good.

Thursday night is a ladies night which runs from April until late August and starts at 6pm. Club nights are set up for doubles matches depending on numbers.

Summer & Winter Box Leagues

The box leagues are open to men and ladies of any standards who are members of the sports club. Each League consist of three or four players and are the best of two sets, to join and see what the rules are click on the tennis league quick link at the top of the right hand column.

Coaching

The club coaching is constantly under review and we try to keep this page regularly updated.

Richie Cunningham is our new coach and is a local lad who grew up on our courts. A qualified LTA level 2 coach, Richie oversees all coaching sessions.

Junior Coaching Programme

All sessions are pay as you play with current fees set at £2 for members and £3 for Non-members. We do request that you book your session(s) as we will be restricting session to 8 player max (10 in certain classes). All classes will run providing we have at least 1 player attending.

Tuesday sessions;

  • 4pm to 5pm – Players between 7 and 10yrs (8 Max)
  • 5pm to 6pm – 10yrs and over, Full yellow ball.
  • 6pm to 7pm – Junior performance groups (invitation only 8 players max)

Thursday sessions;

  • 4pm to 5pm – Open to 10yrs and under (8 max)

Saturday sessions;

  • 10am to 11am – Players between 8 & 10yrs who have played before
  • 11am to 12pm – All players 10yrs and over are welcome
  • 12pm to 1pm – Players 8yrs and under who are just starting

Adult Coaching

We currently have 1 adult coaching session which runs on a Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm and is geared up for beginners and intermediates. These sessions cost £3 for members and £4 for non-members.

Individual & group private lessons can be arranged at the convenience of the coach and yourself. (Prices subject to change up or down with advance notice)

  • Individual junior lessons – £10 per hour
  • 2 player junior lessons – £16 per hour (2 players split cost between them)
  • Individual adult lessons – £12 per hour
  • 2 player adult lessons – £16 per hour (2 players split cost between them)

Juniors

We have a strong junior structure in place with coaching for all ages from the very young to secondary school age. We have a good, and increasing, number of juniors of all ages. There are junior teams in different age groups competing in the South of Scotland Club League. For any further information please contact Michael Goldie on 07734 073397.

Match Nights

These are generally held on a Wednesday from April to September. We run a variety of men’s, ladies and mixed teams in the local South West League. The men’s team competes in the National Scottish Club League and has been very successful. We also enter cup competitions locally and nationally.

Tournaments

The club runs its own championships for all senior and junior members of the club. This includes open singles and doubles as well as handicap events. We aim to run an open event during the year. There is information about tournaments held at other clubs on the notice board in the main clubhouse.

Booking Courts

It is compulsory to book courts at all times. Members are kindly requested to book the courts through the computerised meter situated in the corridor of the main clubhouse. The cost for booking the court is 20p (this should be done by 1 player only in the summertime). There is an additional cost for floodlit tennis of £3.00 per session (£1.50 for each singles player, 2 players need to book to switch the lights on) and £1.50 per session for two juniors which is also paid for through the meter. Sessions are 1.5 hours long and can be reserved online.
