Dumfries cricketer Kirsty Strachan is excited about an invitation to play in an international tournament in Dubai next year.
Kirsty, who plays for the Dumfries CC Women’s team, has been picked in a Scotland Womens Development squad to play in an MCC invitational tournament in Dubai in February.
She, along with the rest of the squad, is hard at work fundraising to help raise £15,000, which will enable the Scotland side to compete, with the prospect of matches against leading English counties such as Lancashire and Durham, along with Wales and an MCC side.
“It is a great opportunity for the players and for the Womens’ game in Scotland. So the team would welcome any sponsors and supporters for the side and players who can help make the trip happen.” Fundraising is being co-ordinated online through www.tinyurl.com/WildcatsDubai.
Although the squad will predominately be under 19, four over-age players are able to participate and will offer guidance as the next generation of players gain valuable experience in a new environment for most of them. [Cricket Scotland: Scotland Wildcats Development Squad to UAE]
Strachan is training with the Scotland Womens squad over the winter as is the Nunholm club’s Rachel Howard who is training with Scotland U17s.
Dumfries Tennis Club singles box leagues are now supported with the LTA’s software program.
The new league set-up will allow all players to check out what other players are doing with regards to results. The ability to check how a player has performed in previous months is also an option that players can use.
The club is keen to push this further and hopefully add the junior leagues into the same format early next year and possibly have the club league matches counting towards the LTA ranking points.
