JMS Nunholm 2008 Review

10 09 2008

Comfortable in the end for JMS Nunholm: JMS Nunholm’s 2008 season must rank ultimately as a very successful one. The players can be pleased with their eventual creditable fifth position in Division 2 of the Western Union – a division from which they had been relegated on their previous three attempts to stay there! The Dumfries second eleven were undefeated by any team from below them in the league and had two of their matches against the bottom two clubs cancelled. Read the rest of this entry »

The Cricket Camp takes a break for a team photo.

The Cricket Scotland Cricket Camp held this week at Nunholm had an excellent turnout with thirty youngsters from around the region attending the three days of coaching and games. The camp was led by first class cricketer New Zealander Grant Robinson who plays for Northern Districts and is the professional at the West of Scotland club. The camp was arranged through and supported by the Council’s Leisure and Sport Department and organised by Cricket Scotland and the D&G Cricket Youth Development Group.

Unfortunately after good weather on day one the coaches had to wrestle with rain on days two and three and the camp had to evacuate to the Keswick Centre in the afternoons. However the facilities at the Sports Club were also able to provide an escape from the rain.

APD Dumfries won their National league match on a wet Weir’s wicket by five wickets on Saturday and it was the next generation of players that won it for the Doonhamers.

Dumfries had several familiar faces missing due to holidays. Weirs looked at the conditions and the likely bowling and opted to bat. This proved an important decision with the ball skidding off a damp pitch.

The opening attack set the tone for the match by taking wickets. Geary bowled both openers and Rennie claimed the crucial wicket of South-African professional Ruan Nel and Weirs were 21 for 3. Read the rest of this entry »
