Cricket: Primary Festival at Nunholm

Last week around seventy pupils from local Primary Schools enjoyed a Cricket Festival at Nunholm as part of the Club’s schools programme. Laurieknowe and St Ninians Primary pupils were involved and with the help of volunteers from the Club and assistance from Active Schools they had the opportunity to take part in several games and skills based activities.

Summer Holiday Cricket: A Cricket Camp takes place at Dumfries Sports Club, Nunholm, on Tue/Wed, 22nd,23rd July, 10-3pm. For boys and girls aged 7-13. The cost for the 2 day camp is £25 (£20 for Sports Club members). Monday evening junior coaching also continues throughout the holidays (6:15-8pm).

Tennis Summer Camps

Dumfries Tennis Club is hosting tennis camps over the Summer Holidays on Monday’s, Wednesday’s & Friday’s.

Parents can choose which day or days they want their child to attend and how many, these will be run subject to demand. Each day is broken down into 2 groups:

10am– 12.30am Mini Tennis Camp (Approx. 5-9 Years) This is aimed at children of primary school age playing with soft/ low compression tennis balls

1pm– 3.30pm Junior Tennis Camp (Approx. 10-16 Years) This is aimed at children who are 10 years or older. This level covers beginner’s right up to junior team players. Open also to under 10’s who are already playing to a certain level.

Scott Beveridge, 4 wickets and selection for the Border Reivers

Bevo, 4 wickets and selection for the Border Reivers

Dumfries’s Scott Beveridge and Niall Alexander have been picked for the Border Reivers one day game against the Dutch side the Northern Hurricanes, in Glasgow on Monday, in the North Sea Pro Series.

Beveridge also plays in the Twenty20 game on Sunday.

The Reivers come to Nunholm to play more games in the Pro Series in June with a T20 match on Monday the 2nd June and a one day game on Tuesday the 3rd June.

Also on Sunday and Monday, Dumfries Women’s team player Kirsty Strachan is with the Scotland Women’s team for their County Championship matches at Northants and Hampshire.

Saturday mini tennis classes January to March.

These sessions are open to all kids aged between 4yrs and 8yrs.

They run for 8 weeks from Saturday 11th Jan to 1st March.

LTA mini tennis1 session only from 1pm—2pm.

Cricket: Scotland Women v Lancs U19s

20130808 260 Wildcats DevXI - Nunholm spectators - webThe Scotland Womens’ Development side, including Dumfries player Kirsty Strachan, played Lancashire U19s in three games at Nunholm last week with the County side coming out on top in a series of well contested games over two days.

Doshi impressed for Lancashire in Thursday’s 45 over game with her 76 not out to put the Lancashire total of 214 for 9 well beyond the reach of the chasing Scots.

In the two Twenty20 games on the Friday, Lancashire won by six wickets and three overs left chasing eighty in the first game.

In the second game the Scots fell short by sixteen runs chasing 112 for 7 with Strachan taking two wickets in her debut bowling stint.

Cricket: Scotland Women at Nunholm

Scotland Women’s Development XI play the Lancashire Development XI at Nunholm this week on Thursday and two Twenty20 games on Friday (10am, 2pm, 9th Aug). The club’s Kirsty Strachan is selected in the Scotland side. Those girls interested in experiencing a new sport are encouraged to come along to have a look and support the Scotland side.
