Dumfries Tennis Club Championship Finals Day and Barbecue

Dumfries Tennis Club will be holding it’s annual club championship finals day this Saturday (20th) and on Sunday it hosts the rained delayed D&G Junior Confined tennis tournament.

Both events start at 10am with the prestigious Men’s singles title and Ladies singles title planned for 11am and 1pm starts. Defending champions, Colin Dunbar and Sophie Robinson will be hoping to defend their titles on the day.

With 17 finals planned for Saturday and a further 6 finals on Sunday, it promises to be a great weekend of tennis. All tennis fans are welcome to come along and enjoy the occasion with a barbecue, snacks and drinks available courtside throughout the day.

Tennis: BBQ & Bubbles Mixed Doubles Tournament

Saturday 2nd July. STARTING AFTER THE WIMBLEDON WOMEN’S SINGLES FINAL (Approx 4-30 for a 5pm start)

All Dumfries Sports Club members are invited to take part in the BBQ & Bubbles Mixed Doubles Tournament.

This is a free to enter tournament with a BBQ courtside, during and after the tournament. Player are asked to bring some light refreshments and join the rest of us in the sports club later for some drinks.

A fun and friendly mixed doubles based competition, round robin (which normally lasts for 2 or 3 hours) where we will pair partners depending on their ability.

Enjoyment, fun and laughter are the requirements then we can try and play tennis….

35th Anniversary Dance – 25th June

The dance marking the 35th anniversary of the Squash Club is this Saturday the 25th June from 8pm to 1am featuring a live band 70’s style finger food selection, raffle and prizes for best-dressed 70’s-themed male and female. All sports club members welcome. This also marks the 35th anniversary of the current clubhouse and squash courts.

Tickets are only £5 and are available from the Bar.

Tennis: News from the DG Leagues

DG Tennis Gents League

Dalbeattie entertained Stewartry CSC with both teams hoping to keep their 100% starts to the season, however on this occasion the 2009 champions Stewartry came out on top, edging it 4-2.  Elsewhere new boys Dumfries C took on Dumfries A, who were also protecting a 100% record. However after a competitive start Dumfries C just run out a steam and lost 6-0. The final match between Dumfries B and Beechgrove was postponed.

Dalbeattie A cemented their place at the top with a good 5-1 win over Dalbeattie B, Stewartry CSC edged out Dumfries A 4-2 and in a very tight match at the bottom Beechgrove just defeated Dumfries B 4-2 to gain their first point of the campaign.

The men’s fixtures for Wednesday 18th May sees defending champions Dalbeattie entertaining Beechgrove,  Dumfries A travel to Stewartry CSC where another 100% record will fall and Dumfries C play Dumfries B.

In the ladies league Stewartry CSC travel to Beechgrove, Dumfries A entertain table topping Dalbeattie A and Dumfries B take on Dalbeattie B.

Tennis: Open Day – Sat 21st May

Dumfries Tennis Club invites you to join them for their Open Day on:

Saturday 21st May 2011
1:00pm – 3:00pm

ALL AGES, ALL ABILITIES, ALL WELCOME

BBQ and Refreshments will be available from 12:30pm.

All members and non-members, adults and juniors are welcome to come along and play some tennis and find out about the club. Colin Dunbar our qualified coach will be available to give some tips on improving your game and to advise on coaching sessions that are currently available. Rackets and balls are provided.

There is a party at Nunholm with the group, Suga n’ Spice, after the Scottish Championship cricket match against Ferguslie on Saturday (7th May) to mark the first home league game for the firsts. Cost £5.





Squash: Dance and Awards Evening – Sat 26th March

The squash dance and awards evening commences at 8pm in the Clubhouse on Saturday 26th March. The evening features a discotheque/DJ, the awards, a raffle and a late licence.

Tickets are on sale now from the Bar at £5 each. Even if you can’t make it, buy a ticket to support the Club or donate a raffle prize.





JM Barrie cricket clash for Peter Pan house

JM Barrie was a lifelong cricket fan and set up his own team

A celebrity cricket match is being arranged to raise funds to renovate a house which helped to inspire JM Barrie’s story of Peter Pan.

The match will be hosted by Nunholm Cricket Club in Dumfries on 7 June.

Barrie was a keen cricketer and formed his own team of literary friends, called the Allahakbarries.

The match will be used to raise funds for the overhaul of Moat Brae house in Dumfries where Barrie played as a child growing up.
