Tennis: 2013 D&G Senior Confined

16 06 2013

The D&G Senior Confined was recently played over the weekend of the 8th and 9th June and the weather was at time too hot for the players to handle.

A strong field saw some entertaining tennis with Colin Dunbar just edging past Richie Cunningham 6-4 and 7-5 in the singles and Chad Lawson winning a very exhausting consolation final against Malcolm McEwen 3-6, 6-3 and 10-5 in the championship tie-break.

On the Sunday with the temperature slightly down on Saturday, again some excellent tennis was served up, with 6 pairs competing for the trophy. Returning duo and long time friends Brian Litster and Fraser Patterson just edge past Lister Mckiddie and Colin Dunbar 6-4 and 7-5 in a very entertaining final and the 2011 champions Chris Topping and Dan McKiddie beat Graeme Cross and Martin Wilson 6-2 and 6-1 in the consolation doubles final.

Tennis: Prestwick Scottish Cup result

14 06 2013

Dumfries Tennis ClubDumfries Men’s tennis team played against Prestwick Tennis Team on 1st June in the first round of the national round of the Scottish Cup.

Dumfries lost 5 – 1, however gave a very good account of themselves and the match was much closer than the score suggested. The team comprised Lister McKiddie and Colin Dunbar, Daniel McKiddie and Ritchie Cunningham and Graeme Cross and Duncan Muir.

The Prestwick first couple proved to be too strong but Graeme and Duncan pushed them hard. Lister and Colin went down in a close 7-6, 7-6 battle. Ritchie and Daniel had two close encounters and won the one tie in a tight three set battle.

Notwithstanding this defeat, there are good prospects in the future for the Dumfries Men’s team, with the younger players combining well with the more experienced players, albeit with Ritchie now being aged 30, he may no longer be classified as youthful!
