The bar opening hours for Christmas at the Sports Club –

The Dumfries Sports Club’s 2024 AGM will take place on Monday 27th January at 6:30pm in the Sports Club.

Members are encouraged to attend and get involved in what happens in their Club.

Our Membership renewals for this coming year (2024) for Dumfries Sports Club (Club) can now be paid for. Unfortunately, last year was a financially tough year for the Club, therefore the Club has had to make the tough decision to increase Memberships and that includes a rise for the Standing Order payments. All Standing Order payments need to be adjusted for the 1st March payment please. Details below. If you do not change your Standing Order in a timely manner, then we may have to suspend your membership, but we will try to contact you beforehand.

The Club are actively trying to reduce outgoing costs, Sky has been cancelled, Energy contracts are currently being changed as renewals come in, energy consumption is being adjusted within the club. This will be another tough financial year for everyone and your Club is no different. The Club does appreciate our members’ support during these times.  

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MEMBERS WHO PAY BY STANDING ORDERS AND LIFE MEMBERS, THEN ALL OTHER MEMBERS ARE ASKED TO COMPLETE A NEW MEMBERSHIP FORM OR CONFIRM BY EMAIL OR TO THE BAR STAFF, THAT ALL DETAILS REMAIN THE SAME AS 2023. 

The club has several way you can pay your membership;

• Monthly Standing Order, (form attached or you can set-up via mobile or online banking)
  • Standing Orders payments are made in advance, so you pay for the following month. i.e 1st March covers March etc.
  • If you pay by Standing Order, you are still required to pay for the whole membership year, regardless of your sports season or injuries, this is not a pay as you play facility.
  • To change your Standing Order amount, either Login to your Online account and do it there or go to your bank and advise them please. 
• Bank Transfer for full amount, please add members name and as a reference so we can match payments,
  • The membership team has to wait on confirmation of payments from our Treasurer, so there will always be a delay in re-activating/creating memberships. Please be patient. 
• Court Booking Account Top-Up, by adding the appropriate fees to your booking account via Paypal or Card payment.
  • This method is currently not available.
• Cheque/Cash/Card – If you would prefer to pay by cheque or cash then please drop into the club during opening hours and pay at the bar. Please get a receipt from the staff if paying by cheque/cash, please ensure we can match it to you! It is not uncommon for partners and parents to cover these fees, so add a note for who the fee is covering please.

Life Members:- Please just check your details are up to date, nothing else required.

Standing Order/Faster Payments

If you pay by Standing Order, please check if your membership category is changing because of your age and adjust your payments accordingly by the end of February please. Age groups are relevant as of 1st March.

PLEASE NOTE, IF MEMBERS DO NOT COMPLETE THEIR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL BY THE END OF SUNDAY 10TH MARCH 2024, THEN WE WILL PRESUME THEY HAVE RESIGNED FROM THE CLUB AND WE WILL HAVE THEIR KEY FOB DEACTIVATED AND THEY WILL BE REMOVED FROM ANY SECTION CLUB NIGHTS OR TEAM GAMES. 
Current members renewing after the 10th March will still be required to pay a full years fee, regardless of when they re-join.

Dumfries Sports Club offers a 2-month trial Full Membership for £36. During the trial you can use all the facilities of the Club (tennis courts, squash courts, fitness suite, lounge bar, changing rooms) and participate in any club nights or practice sessions that the various sections offer. All trial members require a key-fob; obtainable for a £4 refundable deposit.

There are no lock-in commitments at Dumfries Sports Club. At the conclusion of the 2 months, you can join the Club as a member based on the pro-rata annual rate of your respective membership category or just return your key-fob for a refund.

This offer can be discontinued at any time at the discretion of the Club. Limited to one trial membership within a 12-month period.

Dumfries Sports Club AGM 2023

The Dumfries Sports Club’s 2023 AGM will take place on Monday 18th December at 6:30pm.

All adult members are encouraged to attend and get involved in what happens at your Club.

Raymond will be retiring from his job as club groundsman in May after 45 years service. In recognition of his dedication to his work over this period the Sports Club have organised a collection to be given to Raymond on his retiral. Members who may wish to contribute can leave their donation behind the bar or alternatively they can also contribute direct to Gladys McClimont our secretary/treasurer.

After several years of No increases, sadly given the current climate we have had to make a small increase with the upfront payments. I am pleased to present a more positive report than I did this time last year. Although we are still in the midst of the pandemic the situation is much improved from that which we were in 12 months ago. We are indeed fortunate that all our sports have at last commenced and we can enjoy them to something like they were pre-pandemic.

There are of course some restrictions still in place and we must all remain vigilant. Our financial position remains strong thanks to prudent financial management and also due to the government grants that were available during the past year. Rest assured that your management committee explored all avenues of finance during this period. Our annual accounts reflect this work and we are able to report a healthy profit. We are also very much aware of the support afforded to us by our members which has helped tremendously during our recovery. Membership numbers are strong and, in particular, tennis playing membership has increased by over 30% in the last two years. We have also undertaken some major project work within tennis with a completely new playing surface for the four courts and the upgrade of floodlighting on two courts with the other two hopefully also being upgraded in the foreseeable future.

All of this work had been budgeted for within our development programme and no additional costs were incurred. There is now a buzz about the club which has been sorely missing, the squash courts are getting busier on a weekly basis, the fitness suite has increased in popularity, the tennis courts are heavily booked, the bar lounge has had increased numbers in recent weeks which has allowed us to extend some of the opening hours and our cricketers make good of all our facilities even outwith their playing season. It is also great to see our affiliated members in hockey and running returning once more to the club which adds to the overall ambience. Given the really difficult last two years and also our relatively healthy financial situation the management committee are please to recommend no increase in subscription fees this year.

Finally, may I take the opportunity to thank all those on the management committee for their tireless work on behalf of all our members.

We are pleased to announce that Scottish Squash have confirmed that Squash can return from 19th July.
