A sunny Edinburgh on Friday saw the start of the final Masters Squash Home Internationals of the season. The Nunholm Squash Club was once more represented with Sue Strachan playing again, this time for the Womens over 35s.

She started the team off in style with a 3-0 win over the Welsh number five and the team went on to record a 5-0 victory over Wales. Next was Ireland and another 5-0 result and another 3-0 win for Sue this time playing at number four.

This left one more game against England to decide top spot. The Scottish number four lost her game 10/8 in the final set, Sue lost playing at number five and the Scottish number one won easily. This left the number 3’s playing to decide the outcome. Despite a 2-0 lead Scotland succumbed in another five set match, 9-7 in the last set to leave them very close runners-up to England.

Sue reported back that “This was the closest we’ve been by far to England. Maybe next year!”.

Meanwhile a fortnight ago two other representatives from the Nunholm Squash Club were playing in the Home Internationals in Dublin. Abbie Robertson played for the Scotland over-65’s and won both his games 3-0 but Scotland were again runners-up to England. Davy Rogan represented Scotland in the over-70s team but came second in his two games playing as the Scottish number one. Inevitably England once more took the honours.
