APD Dumfries are on the bus this Sunday to a Scottish Cup semi-final. They play Edinburgh side Carlton at Shawholm in Glasgow at the finals day of the new Murgitroyd 20/20 Cup

They join Greaves Clydesdale and Dunfermline Knights who play the first semi-final at 10am. APD Dumfries and Carlton are up at 1pm and the final is scheduled for 4pm. So there is a day out in prospect and some more Dumfries supporters are off to Glasgow for a cup semi-final.

Carlton and Clydesdale start off as favourites as the National Premier league sides in the competition. Dumfries and Dunfermline are both in National Division 2 and will be the underdogs in their respective semi-finals.

Ironically on Saturday it was second placed Dunfermline that ended the Doonhamers’ hopes of promotion from National Division 2 after they won by 63 runs. The nub of the match was a brilliant 116 by their South African professional Ingram who also managed to take three wickets. The next top score of the day was just 18 as Dumfries failed to chase 199 all out.

It was better news for the seconds, JMS Nunholm, as they registered an important 34 run win away over GU Staff in Western Union Division 2. A resilient performance saw them come back to take the last 6 wickets for 32 runs largely due to Robert McBride and Chris McCutcheon who took 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Johnston, 43, and Cross, 31 gave them a total to defend.

On Sunday the bat dominated for Garrison Nunholm in a match against Peebles. Chris Bellwood scored a scintillating not out century and Peter Johnstone rattled up 65 for the side to post 258 for 5. In reply junior Niall Alexander hit his straps with three victims and Chris Howard and Stephen Temlett each claimed 2 wickets for a comfortable win.

First class cricketer, New Zealander Grant Robinson from Northern Districts will lead the Cricket Scotland Cricket Camp taking place next week at Dumfries CC at Nunholm. The 3-day camp runs from Tuesday to Thursday, 10-3:30 and is for boys and girls aged from 8-15, (Cost £30). Information and bookings can be obtained through the David Keswick Centre on 01387-269432.
