Squash: DG League title goes to D&C Lindsay Forestry

1 05 2009

The Lockerbie team sponsored by D & C Lindsay Forestry clinched the John Henderson’s and Sons Dumfries and Galloway Division One league title last Thursday night in the closest finish seen in years.

With the Lockerbie outfit having to secure 12 points against a full strength Finite team to take the title everyone would have to play their A game on the night to take the title.

With Rab Grierson and Kenny Little up against Graeme Fraser and Jock Glendinning, things looked bleak for the home side as Rab and Graeme headed into a fifth game and Kenny was 8/2 down in the fourth against a determined looking Jock.

The tactical switches made by the Lockerbie team looked like backfiring, but with Rab storming through the fifth and Kenny some how managing to win the fourth and going on and taking the match 3/2 Lockerbie were off to a flying start.

Team captain Davy Lindsay in another tactical switch was too strong in all departments for Gary McKean and ran out the 3/0 winner.

Neil McBride for Lockerbie, whose motto is “let me entertain you”, certainly did as he made Andrew Morrow cover every inch of the court before losing out 2/3 in a match that could have gone either way.

Ronnie Carter and Les Harkness had their usual five-setter with Les continuing his good run of late and clinching the match 3/2.

A deserved Man of the Match award went to Kenny Little for his superb fight back in his match with Jock Glendinning.

After a great nights squash Lockerbie secured a 16/10 win, meaning that they had clinched the league by five points from the Bard Vet team.
