Charity race night raises £500 for Sands charity

28 06 2009

A Dumfries charity that supports people affected by stillbirth held a race night to raise funds recently.

Sands (Stillbirth and neonatal death society) held the race night at Dumfries Sports Club in Nunholm to raise the profile of the Dumfries branch, and raised £500 in the process.

Sands provide support to anyone affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy or after birth.

The death of a baby is a devastating experience, the effects of grief can be overwhelming for the parents, their family and friends.

Seventeen babies a day die or are stillborn in the UK.

Sands want to ensure that as few families as possible experience this terrible loss by improving the quality of care and promoting research that could help reduce these numbers.

Dumfries Sands has three trained befrienders, a dedicated mobile phone, and have a monthly support meeting. Dumfries Sands can be contacted on-07864709228.

The organisers of the night wished to thank all who attended the event, and Dumfries Sports Club for making the night such a success.
