In the Western Premier League at Ayr, Stafforce Dumfries put in a good performance in the field as Ayr reached 212 for 7 in the first innings.

That total was reliant on an impressive innings by New Zealand international and professional Michael Papps who opened the batting and was run out on the final ball for a score of 137 out of the hundred and ninety runs scored off the bat.

The Solway Print Dumfries Man of the Day was Scott Beveridge who was the top wicket taker with four wickets. However Dumfries did not get the chance to test that score with Saturday’s localised downpours causing the second innings to be abandoned in only the fourth over.

Elsewhere, young Dumfries bat Chris McBride top scored for Durham Academy hitting 60 in their North East Premier League match on Saturday at Stockton.

In the Western Premier Reserve League at Nunholm, Dumfries 2nds totalled 159 for nine off 36 overs in a rain interrupted innings.

The Dee Slipstream Dumfries Man of the Match Andy Reed top scored with 43 for the home side, with scores in the thirties from opener Adam Elliott and from Danny Armstrong. Chamilla Nagodavithana and Gurupal Singh then took two very early wickets.

However the experienced batting pair of McCrossan and Johnstone kept Cambusdoon ahead of the required score and when more heavy rain did finally end the game they had successfully steered Cambusdoon to 122 for 2 for an eight wicket win chasing an altered target score.

This Saturday, in the Western Premier League, Stafforce Dumfries are at home at the Galloway Industrial Nunholm ground against Uddingston and Dumfries seconds, Nunholm, play away against Bothwell in the Western Premier Reserve League.
