APD Dumfries came up against a powerful batting performance from Eastern Premiership side Grange in the Murgitroyd Scottish Twenty20 Semi-Final in Glasgow on Sunday.

It was a return to playing in coloured kit and with a pink ball as Dumfries were asked to bat first. On a lively morning wicket Dumfries reached 29 for two after the first six overs. Davidson then came in at number four and the Stevenson & McConnel Dumfries Man of the Match provided the top score of the innings. He hit 38 not out at a run a ball as the Dumfries innings contrived to lose wickets whenever some impetus had been gained. The century was brought up with a six and the side finished with a potential par score of 111 for the loss of six wickets.

However Munsey, who has featured for the Scotland Development XI this season, opened along with Scotland all-rounder Goudie and the former proceeded to hit some massive sixes as the Dumfries bowlers were unable to make the breakthroughs or staunch the runs.

Goudie was the only wicket to fall with Chris Bellwood pouching a well struck blow off the bowling of Alan Davidson when fielding in the covers. The match reached its conclusion in horrendous conditions as a heavy shower swept across the ground but Munsey finished on 52 not out off 45 balls, including four sixes and three fours, and Flannigan on 32 not out with the target reached in quick time.

Drumpellier then beat Aberdeenshire in the other semi-final but they lost to the deserved winners Grange in a final with a score-line resembling their game against Dumfries.

Both Dumfries 1st XI and 2nd XI league fixtures were victims of the weather last Saturday. This Saturday APD Dumfries play their last home Western Premier league fixture with the opportunity to overtake their opponents, third placed West of Scotland.

Away with Scotland U17s, Dumfries’s Niall Alexander took two wickets as Scotland lost, just, by one wicket in their high-scoring 2-day match at Suffolk last week. The side won their match against Herefordshire U17s in the preceding 2-day match.

Dumfries opening bowler Peter Lojszczyk was selected for the Border Reivers in the Pro Series 3-day fixture against the Highlanders played at Stirling this week.

Cricket: Dumfries Women lose League encounter

Dumfries Women lost their Women’s National League match at Nunholm on Sunday against St Boswells thanks to notable individual performances from the visitors.

St Boswells were asked to bat and Dumfries had a useful start from opening bowlers Kirsty Strachan and Sue Jeffrey. Strachan claimed two wickets in her opening overs, one courtesy of a fine diving catch by keeper Ali McCubbin.

However those wickets were perhaps a tactical error since they brought Scotland all-rounder Kathryn White to the wicket. She showed her experience, as did her partner, opener Rebecca Waldie, also with a Scotland pedigree, in putting together a big partnership.

Despite the efforts of the bowlers, aided by good fielding, they were unable to get the necessary wicket to hopefully open up an end. The pair were still there at the end of the twenty overs having reached a sizeable 151 for 2. White finished 83 not out after an innings which was a pleasure to watch, and which included twelve boundaries. Waldie was also unbeaten on fifty.

Dumfries batted well in response and openers Kirsty Strachan and Rachel Howard had put on twenty eight when Strachan popped up a slower delivery for a caught and bowled in White’s final over for a score of 15. Howard followed soon after for 19, the first of three wickets for Waldie, and skipper Sue Strachan was another after adding a rapid ten.

The total was not really in prospect but Sue Jeffrey, the Parkdale Garage Dumfries Player of the Match, kept the scoreboard ticking over with 23 not out. She was aided by contributions from Ali McCubbin and Phillippa Benson.

The innings reached the hundred, exactly, for the loss of five wickets after a good effort by the Nunholm side which included a first bowling experience for Naomi Cowan and a debut innings for Amy Hunter.

Cricket: Scotland Women v Lancs U19s

20130808 260 Wildcats DevXI - Nunholm spectators - webThe Scotland Womens’ Development side, including Dumfries player Kirsty Strachan, played Lancashire U19s in three games at Nunholm last week with the County side coming out on top in a series of well contested games over two days.

Doshi impressed for Lancashire in Thursday’s 45 over game with her 76 not out to put the Lancashire total of 214 for 9 well beyond the reach of the chasing Scots.

In the two Twenty20 games on the Friday, Lancashire won by six wickets and three overs left chasing eighty in the first game.

In the second game the Scots fell short by sixteen runs chasing 112 for 7 with Strachan taking two wickets in her debut bowling stint.

On Saturday, APD Dumfries overtook their opponents, Drumpellier, to move into fourth place in the CSL Western Premier League after a 23 run win.

Dumfries posted 177 all out with the Dupont Teijin Films Man of the Match, Scott Beveridge, providing the crucial innings, top scoring with 58.

He arrived at the crease with Dumfries in difficulties at 68 for 5 but when he was out Dumfries had boosted the score past one hundred and fifty.

Then opening bowler Chris McCutcheon took the first four wickets to fall to take the heart out of the Drumpellier line-up at 35 for 4. Their innings also revived but Alan Davidson continued his wicket-taking run with another four wickets as Drumpellier were bowled out for 154 with six overs left.

APD Dumfries next play at Ayr on Saturday in the league and are lined up against Edinburgh side Grange in the semi-final of the Murgitroyd Scottish Twenty20 at Poloc CC on Sunday.

Eco-Genics Nunholm lost a low scoring match at home against Drumpellier 2nds, Langloan, in the Western Premier Reserve League. Jerry Goodin took four wickets for the Barbours’ Man of the Match award as Langloan were dismissed for eighty nine but Nunholm fell fifteen runs short, all out for seventy five.

After being part of the Scotland U19 squad in the Netherlands that qualified for the U19 World Cup last week, Dumfries’s Niall Alexander toured this week with Scotland U17s in 2-day encounters against U17 County sides.

Scotland Women’s Development XI play the Lancashire Development XI at Nunholm this week on Thursday and two Twenty20 games on Friday (10am, 2pm, 9th Aug). The club’s Kirsty Strachan is selected in the Scotland side. Those girls interested in experiencing a new sport are encouraged to come along to have a look and support the Scotland side.

Alan Davidson delivered with bat and ball for APD Dumfries on Saturday as they registered a comprehensive win at Renfrew in the Western Premier League. Dumfries set a total of 188 for 9 in a rain affected match reduced to 41 overs. Opener Davidson top scored with 54 aided by middle order runs from Drew Dawson and Scott Beveridge.

Renfrew looked well set at fifty for no wicket, but Beveridge started the slide bowling Hendrickse for 32. Davidson came on to bowl the other opener, the professional Said, and then transformed the innings by taking four wickets in his sixth over, including a hat-trick.

Renfrew found no way back as remarkably five wickets fell with the score on 74. The Hole in the Wha’ Man of the Match Davidson finished with 6 wickets for 17 and Beveridge claimed four wickets as Renfrew slumped to 98 all out. APD Dumfries play at Drumpellier in the league on Saturday.

Meanwhile Eco-Genics Nunholm also had a dramatic win by two wickets over Renfrew 2nds, Deanpark, in the CSL Premier Reserve League. Deanpark hit 193 all out with Chris McCutcheon producing another impressive bowling performance taking 3 wickets for 6 runs in 7 overs.

The Dumfries side had reached 81 for 5 when McCutcheon hit Nunholm into the game with a rapid 40. However when he was caught at long-on Nunholm looked second placed at 128 for 6.

Then two Strachan partnerships kept hopes of a win alive. Fraser and David Strachan added twenty. Then a near forty run sibling partnership between Fraser and Kirsty Strachan was only broken with just seven needed.

Nevertheless, the Scott Beveridge Plumbing Man of the Match, youngster Fraser Strachan, was there at the end after a match-winning 41 not out for a two wicket victory. On Saturday the side play Langloan at Nunholm.

On Saturday, at Nunholm, APD Dumfries defeated Stirling County in the CSL Western Premier League by four wickets. Stirling were 153 all out in the first innings with wickets falling at intervals throughout the innings thanks to two early wickets from Stuart Alexander and three late ones from Todd Griffiths.

The Dumfries openers then produced a century opening partnership with Pat Druce first out for 56 and then Griffiths for 47 to set up the win. However Scotland U19s’ Nick Farrar managed to made life awkward for the Nunholm side by taking five wickets in his spell of swing bowling.

Nevertheless Dumfries reached the win with fifteen overs still left and six wickets down. The Good Man Home Improvements Man of the Match went to Todd Griffiths for his all-round contribution including a memorable horizontal diving catch in the covers. APD Dumfries play Renfrew, away, in the league on Saturday.

At Stirling, Eco-Genics Nunholm reached 106 all out in the Western Premier Reserve league. Williamfield made their winning target with the loss of just three wickets. Mark Irwin was Dumfries Tool Room Man of the Match for the top score and a good opening spell. On Saturday the side play Renfrew 2nds at home.

Dumfries’s Niall Alexander was part of a 78-run Scotland U17s win over Ireland last week and this Friday is with Scotland u19s in Holland as they play their first qualification match for the U19 World Cup.

Rachel Howard played for Scotland Women’s U17s against County opposition in the ECB T20 tournament last week and the Scotland Women’s Development XI play Lancashire U19s at Nunholm next Thu/Fri, 8/9th August. The Dumfries Women’s league game at Stirling on Sunday was rained off.

Seventeen year old Dumfries opening bowler Niall Alexander has been selected for Scotland U19s for the ICC U19 World Cup Qualification tournament to be played in Holland next week.

With only one European side now going through to the finals in 2014 in the United Arab Emirates the side will need to overcome the likes of Ireland and the Netherlands in the six team round-robin. Alexander has been warming up this week for Scotland u17s against Ireland. He follows the Dumfries club’s Tom McBride who played in the previous U19 World Cup in Australia last year.

On Saturday APD Dumfries lost to Clydesdale at Nunholm by four wickets as the CSL Western Premier League resumed. Dumfries posted a score of 153 all out with the Walker and Sharp Dumfries Man of the Match, Chris Bellwood, hitting 43 and Marcus Richardson 38. Scotland bowlers, Sharif and Haq, took four and two wickets respectively.

Clydesdale reached the target for the loss of six wickets. Spinner Scott Beveridge took four wickets and Drew Dawson two with Farid finishing on 52 not out. On Saturday Dumfries next play Stirling at home in the league.

Also on Saturday Eco-Genics Nunholm beat Clydesdale seconds away at Titwood by forty runs in the Western Premier Reserve league. Nunholm hit an imposing 288 for the loss of six wickets. Davie Davidson top scored with 78 and Goodin, Brockwell and youngster Dean Brotherston all scored in the forties. The Thomson and Jardine Nunholm Man of the Match, Jerry Goodin, took four wickets as Titwood fell short on 248 all out.

Scott Beveridge, Chris Bellwood and Peter Lojszczyk played the first match in the inaugural Euro Challenge Series between Scottish and Dutch Pro teams at Ayr last week. Beveridge was not out helping the Border Reivers over the line in their four wicket win over the Holland Seafarers with a forty six run sixth wicket partnership with century maker MacLeod chasing 235 for 8. He and Lojszczyk also took a wicket apiece.

Cricket: APD Dumfries beat Scottish Cup holders

APD Dumfries beat the Scottish Cup holders Heriots by 63 runs in a Scottish Cup group match at Nunholm on Saturday to knock them out of the competition. Dumfries set a total of 250 for 9 thanks to Chris Bellwood top scoring with 61, 60 from the Braidwood Solicitors Man of the Match, Marcus Richardson, and Alan Davidson was one short of a fifty, with 49.

The Dumfries bowlers then bowled well to have Heriots at 24 for 3. Peter Lojszczyk took two early wickets and spinner Scott Beveridge later took three to dismiss the Edinburgh side for 187 all out.

Also on Saturday Eco-Genics Nunholm lost away at Irvine by 36 runs in the Western Cup. Irvine also scored 187, for 9, off their 40 overs. Keith Walker took two wickets and the Monaghans Jewellers Nunholm Man of the Match, Peter Johnstone also spun his way to four. The young pairing of Chris McBride and Todd Rafferty batted particularly well for 29 and 26 respectively but Nunholm fell short with a final total of 151 all out with six overs left.

On Sunday, Good Man Dumfries hosted RH Corstorphine in a friendly at Nunholm. Cameron Leeder dominated the Edinburgh side’s innings of 190 for 6 with a 114 run century. Then a timely fifth wicket century partnership between Marcus Richardson, with 45, and the ETP Electrical Dumfries Man of the Match, Robert McBride, with a commanding 78 not out sealed a four wicket win.

The CSL Western Premiership league fixtures resume on Saturday with APD Dumfries at home to Clydesdale.

This week the side’s opening bowler, Niall Alexander, has been playing with Scotland U19s with matches against the MCC and a tri-series against Northern Universities in Durham. Scott Beveridge, Peter Lojszczyk and Chris Bellwood also played for the Borders Reivers in their 4 wicket win against the South Holland Seafarers at Ayr this week. The intra-country Challenge Series is a first between Scottish and Dutch Pro teams.

Summer Junior Cricket: Club junior coaching sessions continue at Nunholm each Monday through the summer at Dumfries Sports Club, Nunholm, from 6:15-8 and are suitable for beginners. The Club’s Womens’ and Secondary Girls training takes place on Fridays from 5 to 7. Cricket: Dumfries Cup win over Falkland

On Saturday, APD Dumfries won their Scottish Cup game at Falkland by 4 wickets by successfully chasing the home side’s total of 150 all out. Jerry Goodin and Manson Associates Man of the Match Peter Lojszczyk each took three wickets for Dumfries. Several in the batting line-up then made contributions. Chris Bellwood scored 35 and Robert McBride 29 in the winning Dumfries total of 157 for 6 which was reached with over six overs left. The side play their final group game against Heriots at home on Saturday.

Also on Saturday Ego-Genics Nunholm won their Western Cup game match against Galloway by 8 wickets. Alan Davidson dictated the course of the match for Nunholm with five wickets to help have Galloway five down early in their innings. Damien Brown responded by hitting 49 for the final Galloway total of 153 all out. Then the JKC Engineering Man of the Match, Alan Davidson, with 54 and Davie Davidson with 50 not out took Nunholm past that for the loss of two wickets.

In the CSL40 Cup at a sunny Sunday at Nunholm a young Dumfries side lost out to Renfrew. Professional Said hit a century in the visitor’s total of 211 for 9. Cairndale Hotel Man of the Match Peter Lojszczyk finished with a five-for. A sixth wicket partnership between Chris Bellwood (50) and Alan Davidson (35) kept a win possible but the side were finally all out for 173 with five overs left.

Dumfries’s Niall Alexander travelled with Scotland u17s to the Netherlands for a 3-game tour this week and Rachel Howard returned from playing with Scotland Women U17s in their games against County sides last week.
