The Squash Annual General Meeting takes place in the clubhouse on Monday 6th October 2008 at 7.00pm.
All members are invited to attend the meeting. Your input will help take the club forward and new members to the committee are most welcome. Come along and make your point and get involved. It is your club after all and the committee only aim to improve it on your behalf.
The present committee would like to welcome you at the meeting with a free glass of wine or soft drink.
NEW: Tennis ladders are starting from the 1st October. There will be ladders for Men, Ladies and Juniors. Players just have to put their names, with contact numbers, on the appropriate list which is up in the main foyer of the Clubhouse. Subsequently people can just add their names if interested.
A dozen of the younger players from Dumfries Cricket Club received top quality coaching from Cricket Scotland coaches at a prize winning session at the Nunholm ground last Thursday.
Dumfries CC were one of two clubs in Scotland to win a coaching session, in a Lloyds TSB Scotland promotion, which was attended by the Manager of the Dumfries branch, Tom Armstrong.
The squad for the Coatbridge Cold Store Colts who play in the local John Henderson & Sons Midweek League were given expert advice and video analysis from Cricket Scotland’s National Community Development Manager Steve Paige, Iain Stewart and Josh Johnston.
They now have much to work on for next year during their off-season training this winter.
Alan Davidson, Richard Rennie heading south for the winter
Just when bats are being thrust away to languish for the winter two young Dumfries CC cricketers are instead packing them for use in Australia. First eleven players Alan Davidson and Richard Rennie are off to experience a season of cricket Oz style.
Alan heads for New South Wales and the Wallsend Tigers club in Newcastle. Dumfries has long standing connections with the club including this season’s skipper Scott Beveridge, and Brett Jackson who starred for Dumfries two seasons ago, both of whom were Wallsend players, as surprisingly was the current England keeper Tim Ambrose. APD Dumfries at the Scottish 20/20 Finals
Final hurdle the problem for APD Dumfries: APD Dumfries finished season 2008 in a respectable fourth place in National League Division 2. In the process they lost twice to the league winners, Stoneywood-Dyce, once to the side that came second, Dunfermline, once to the side above them in third, Corstophine, and a damaging loss to SMRH who finished eighth. Comfortable in the end for JMS Nunholm: JMS Nunholm’s 2008 season must rank ultimately as a very successful one. The players can be pleased with their eventual creditable fifth position in Division 2 of the Western Union – a division from which they had been relegated on their previous three attempts to stay there! The Dumfries second eleven were undefeated by any team from below them in the league and had two of their matches against the bottom two clubs cancelled. Read the rest of this entry »
The annual Ayr Hockey tournament saw Dumfries Men’s Hockey Club travel to Cambusdoon on Saturday with a strong team of 11 players and were hopeful of a better finish than the previous year. Read the rest of this entry »
The Dumfries ladies’ first game on Saturday was against the strong host team of the tournament, Ayr.
Dumfries were struggling to find their feet and a very frustrating game saw many chances missed with Swanston, McCubbin and Miller all coming close.
Unfortunately, Ayr scored an opportunistic goal against the run of play and then closed down their defence to seal them game 0-1.
Not pleased with this start to the weekend, there was a tactical change before the ladies’ next opposition – a young team from Kellburn. Read the rest of this entry »
The cricket fun day takes place next Saturday. In a packed programme there is something for the juniors, for those eager to hear of their win in the Runs Sweepstake, through to the idle spectator. So do try to drop in during the day to sign off the season. Any juniors who still want to play but are not able to enter a mini-team please contact Trefor who will allocate a place. Stuart Corbett-Byers square cuts in the semi-final run chase
APD Dumfries travelled to Glasgow on Sunday for their third attempt to play the semi-final of the Scottish Murgitroyd 20/20 Cup. However the side fell short in their attempt to get the better of Premier League side Carlton.
Bowling first they encountered a step up in batting nous as Scotland opener Watts and ex-Saltire English showed their experience. They found the singles, turned ones into hard runs twos, and if there was a loose ball they made sure it disappeared to the boundary. Read the rest of this entry »
Dumfries Tennis Club’s Senior and Junior Championship Finals take place at Dumfries Sports Club, Nunholm this Saturday, 30th August starting at 11 a.m. sharp. Play will continue for most of the day and everyone is looking forward to some exciting matches in both the open and handicap events.
All tennis members past or present, sports club members and spectators can come along and enjoy the day.
Competitors are asked to attend at 10.45 a.m. Please would all competitors bring food as usual for lunch.
Now, some of last year’s trophies have not yet been returned. The club asks that anyone who still has one returns it by 30th August to Lister McKiddie or Colin Dunbar or leaves the trophy behind the bar at the Sports Club (no names will be taken!)
