APD Dumfries sank bottom placed Edinburgh on Saturday in their National League Division 2 encounter at Nunholm by seven wickets. The South of Scotland over 35’s Tennis Team has been selected to travel to Eastbourne over the weekend of 22nd and 24th August with the team almost exclusively coming from Dumfries & Galloway which is an excellent achievement. South of Scotland in this instance comprises Ayrshire, D&G and Borders. The team comprises Geoff Legg of Castle Douglas Tennis Club, Fraser Patterson and Brian Litster of Dalbeattie Tennis Club, Lister McKiddie of Dumfries Tennis Club and Gordon McGuigan of Western Tennis Club.
All Counties in Great Britain converge any sport to play on the hallowed grass courts and this year South of Scotland takes on Cumbria, Isle of Man and Somerset and the team will hopefully have a successful event.
The Cricket Scotland Cricket Camp held this week at Nunholm had an excellent turnout with thirty youngsters from around the region attending the three days of coaching and games. The camp was led by first class cricketer New Zealander Grant Robinson who plays for Northern Districts and is the professional at the West of Scotland club. The camp was arranged through and supported by the Council’s Leisure and Sport Department and organised by Cricket Scotland and the D&G Cricket Youth Development Group.
Unfortunately after good weather on day one the coaches had to wrestle with rain on days two and three and the camp had to evacuate to the Keswick Centre in the afternoons. However the facilities at the Sports Club were also able to provide an escape from the rain.

Local squash players are queuing up to try a new court after the refurbishment of court 2 at Nunholm Squash Club.
Sue Strachan (Squash Section chairman) ‘declared it open’ by hitting the first ball on the new powder blue court on Sunday. The court was inaugurated by a “friendly” game of doubles with other committee members Keith Martin, Peter Allen and Mike Service.
During the season 2007-8 courts 3 and 4 have also undergone some refurbishment but court 2 has been completely redone with a new floor and plasterwork and a new pastel paint job.
We have to thank the Management Committee of Dumfries Sports Club for showing their continuing commitment to the squash section by putting up the majority of the finance required to redo the court. It looks great and it plays well too! I just hope that members will remember to wear clean shoes with non marking soles so we can keep it that way as long as possible!” commented Sue.
