Dumfries Dean’ied semi-final place
11 06 2008Dumfries Men’s Tennis Team competed in the National Scottish Cup Quarter Finals last Saturday against top Edinburgh Club, Dean. The Dumfries team comprised Mickey Breen and Chris Topping at number 1, Colin Dunbar and Lister McKiddie at number 2, with Will Zielger and Jack Copeland at number 3. The team’s brilliant run came to an end as they were beaten 5-1 but the game was much closer than the score suggests with some tight matches.

Dumfries notch up two league wins
9 06 2008Both Dumfries CC sides claimed valuable league wins on Saturday. The firsts, APD Dumfries gained a comfortable 8 wicket win at home against Fife side Falkland in National League Division 2. Scotland Women’s game moved to Stirling

5-1 win to go into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals
3 06 2008Dumfries Men’s Tennis Team had one of their best ever Scottish Cup performances in winning in great style 5 – 1 against Peebles to go into the quarter finals of the National stage of the Scottish Cup.
The Dumfries team comprised Mickey Breen and Chris Topping at No 1, Colin Dunbar and Lister McKiddie at No 2 with Will Ziegler and Jack Copland at No 3. Dumfries now takes on one of the top Edinburgh Clubs, Dean, this Saturday, 7th June and hopefully can create an upset.
This was due to be a home fixture but due to the junior tournament being held at Nunholm that day the match will take place at Dalbeattie at 1pm.

Two Nunholm Centurions halt GlenPark

There were contrasting fortunes for the two Dumfries sides in their league fixtures on Saturday.
After their great win against leaders Dunfermline Knights last week APD Dumfries had a disappointing loss away to Stoneywood-Dyce who they were level with in third place in National League Division 2.
However the seconds, JMS Nunholm, had a 215 run win against Greenock seconds, Glenpark, in Western Union Division 2 with the openers scoring two centuries. Read the rest of this entry »

Scotland’s women back at Nunholm – 8th June
1 06 2008[This match has been moved to Stirling so that this fixture AND a separate match between development sides can be accommodated.]
Nunholm is hosting the Scotland Women against Cumbria on Sunday the 8th June in the ECB County Cup. This is their second fixture at the club having also played Derbyshire here in 2006.
Scotland are drawn with Durham, Northumberland, and Cumbria in this 50 overs competition and have registered a win in their first match with Northumberland by 115 runs with the next match this game at Dumfries. Scotland scored 279 for 5 (century to Anderson) and Northumberland scored 164 for 8 in reply.

First Club Night Competition – Mon, 2nd June
29 05 2008The first club night competition of the season at the Tennis Club is on Monday, the 2nd June with a draw for partner. Those wanting to take part should arrive no later than 6.30pm. There is a fee of £2 for adults and £1 for juniors and there is a prize on offer.

Busy Tennis Courts on 7/8 and 14/15 June
27 05 2008There are various tennis competitions scheduled for the weekends of the 7th and 14th of June. So court time will be at a premium and the Tennis Club apologises for any inconvenience to members. The details are:
- Sat 7 & Sun 8 June all day to 6pm – Finals of South of Scotland junior road to Wimbledon competition. (This is not an open competition).
- Sat 14 June all day to 6pm – Tennis Dumfries and Galloway Junior Closed Tournament.
- Sun 15 June all day to 6pm – Mens and ladies open doubles competition. Draw for partner.

27 05 2008The Tennis Dumfries & Galloway Junior Championships are to be held on Saturday the 14 June. The closing date for entries is Tuesday the 10th June. The courts at Nunholm wil be used in conjunction with courts at the David Keswick Centre to provide at least 6 courts for the day.

Tennis Club Championships 2008
27 05 2008The closing dates for entry into the Dumfries Tennis Club Senior and Junior Championships are looming rapidly so please get your entries in on time. The ties are played over the course of the season with the finals day on Saturday 30th August. All standards are welcome with both open and handicap events in the various categories and entry is open to all Sports Club members.

Top Placed Knights yield to Alexander

APD Dumfries pulled of a dramatic win on Sunday against the National League Division 2 leaders Dunfermline Knights. In an enthralling game the opposition were restricted to 150 all out after Stuart Alexander blew away their top order with an opening spell which claimed 4 wickets.
