John Blain visit postponed to Saturday, 22nd March
7 03 2008Due to a horrible weather forecast for tomorrow (consistent heavy rain) the visit by Scotland player John Blain to the cricket club tomorrow for a coaching clinic has been postponed by 2 weeks. He will be down instead on Saturday the 22nd March as per the same arrangements, and he will also bring down any equipment ordered or requested then. We hope that this date does not give problems to anyone wanting to attend.

Squash Club Championship play-by dates
6 03 2008Due to the lateness of the draw please keep a sharp lookout for the play-by dates for the Club Championship. In order to complete the competition there could be day by day completion dates. If there are any problems please contact Sue Strachan, Peter Allan or Raymond Currie as soon as possible.

Free membership of British Tennis
6 03 2008The CEO of Tennis Scotland was on Radio Scotland on Saturday discussing the LTA’s new membership scheme. As Dumfries Tennis Club is an LTA affiliated club this means that adults can have FREE membership until the end of January 2009 (discounted thereafter), and juniors simply have free membership. More information on the benefits, for example access to tickets, is available here on the LTA website: http://www.lta.org.uk/Membership/
In particular juniors can get coaching tips, newsletters and get involved with British Tennis.

Club’s Squash players selected for Scotland
5 03 2008The Scottish Masters Closed Championships took place last weekend in Aberdeen and had a strong representation from the Nunholm Squash Club.
Davy Rogan showed that 70 is the new 40 by winning the over-70 National Championships to add to his East and Central titles. Sue Strachan finished runner-up in the over-35 and over-40 competition.
As a result of Masters’ performances five players from the squash section have been selected to play for Scotland in the upcoming Home Internationals.
Jimmy Wells and Robin Ridley were picked for the over-45 team, Abbie Robertson for the over-65’s, Davy Rogan for the over-70’s and Sue Strachan for the over-40 and over-35 teams.

A bridge too far

APD Dumfries set their sights on a new season
29 02 2008Dumfries Cricket Club start their outdoor practices at JMS Nunholm with a training session for the first team squad this Saturday, the 1st of March, at 1pm.
Last season the side, APD Dumfries, had a late season run to take them to the edge of the promotion places in Division 2 of the Lloyds TSB Scotland National League and finish in a good fourth place position.
This season, new skipper, Aussie Scott Beveridge is out to bring his country’s winning ways to the campaign and for the club to remain as contenders for promotion as they have managed over their first two years at national level.

Nunholm Squash Masters go North
26 02 2008The Scottish Masters Closed Championships are on this weekend in Aberdeen and will have a strong representation from the Nunholm Squash Club.
Sue Strachan in the over-35 and over-40’s women’s competitions hopes to be well placed and has a full weekend with five tough matches to play. Les Harkness is the club’s sole representative at over-40’s and Jim Wells moves on to join Ronnie Carter in the over-45’s in the largest of all the age group draws. Abbie Robertson hopes to catch the eye of the selectors at over-65 and Davy Rogan ,who is the reigning Scottish champion and number 1, hopes to hang on to his title despite strong opposition by “the young guy” in the draw who is “only 70”! The club wishes them good luck in their trek north.
