23 06 2010

APD Dumfries have a hectic weekend scheduled. On Saturday they play West Lothian at Nunholm in National League Division 2 at Nunholm. West Lothian sit two places behind Dumfries in third place and with professional Van Wyk in tremendous form as the league’s leading run scorer, with close to five hundred runs, and an average in the nineties, Dumfries can expect a tough encounter.

On Sunday Dumfries leave early on the long journey to Division 1 side Stoneywood-Dyce for a first ever quarter-final encounter in the Scottish Cup.

On Saturday JMS Nunholm play at Bothwell in Western Union Division 2 as the second half of the Western Union league fixtures start.

Man of the match Scott Beveridge on his way to 131

On Sunday, league leaders APD Dumfries maintained their unbeaten run with a convincing 111 run win over Weirs at Nunholm in National League Division 2. They amassed 298 for 3 thanks to a not out innings of 131 from Scott Beveridge and 95 from Tom McBride. Then Jerry Goodin spun his way to five wickets as Weirs were bowled out for 187.

Dumfries won the toss and chose to bat in hot sunny conditions. However the Weirs opening attack of Shah and Srivinas bowled well and found enough life to give the Dumfries openers an awkward start and it was Srivinas who achieved an early breakthrough bowling Parkinson cheaply. Cricket: Bowling into the Scottish Cup Quarter Finals

16 06 2010

On Sunday APD Dumfries were back in Edinburgh this time to replay their second round Scottish Cup match against RH Corstorphine. Again the rain clouds were on the weather chart and the match had to be decided on a bowl out which Dumfries won by a football score, three nil.

The cricket equivalent of the penalty shoot-out required five bowlers with two deliveries each. Dumfries hit with their first three bowlers. Corstorphine didn’t and Dumfries now travel to Stoneywood-Dyce for their first match in the Scottish Cup quarter finals. Man of the Match was awarded to Jerry Goodin as the first bowler to hit the stumps, athletically attired in his jeans.

Cricket: Six out of Six for APD Dumfries

Andy Parkinson, top scored with 51 no

APD maintained their hundred percent record in National League Division 2 with a convincing 8 wicket win against SMRH in Edinburgh on Saturday.

Captain Corbett-Byers put SMRH in to bat and Alan Maskrey reinforced the decision with a fine spell of swing bowling. His opening partner Robert McBride took the first wicket by bowling one opener with the score on 35. Maskrey then took a brilliant caught and bowled to get rid of number three. He rapidly followed that up with the wicket of opposition skipper Bissett for 24 when he was out caught. Meanwhile Josh Geary had snuck on at the other end to bowl number four and when Maskrey took another wicket, bowled, SMRH were in disarray at 49 for 5.

Thereafter the innings relied on a 44 not out from Brock to post a total. Jim Patterson came on to claim two more wickets to make it seven down for 89 and it then took 22 from Coltherd in partnership with Brock for the total to grind to 148 for 8 after the 50 overs. Man of the Match Josh Geary scored 92 for APD Dumfries

APD Dumfries maintained their lead at the top of National League Division 2 winning by 21 runs at RH Corstorphine by the Duckworth Lewis method in a rain affected encounter. They totalled 255 for 8 with Josh Geary top scoring with 92 and Scott Beveridge hitting 81. The home side had reached 104 for 3 when rain eventually won in the twenty ninth over.

Dumfries were put into bat in what seemed good sunny batting conditions but an lbw in the first over to Allan and another a few overs later put the side on the back foot. However the cavalry came from down under as Beveridge and Geary restored fortunes. They shared a hundred and thirty run partnership as they gradually increased the innings run rate to five an over. Hawick put the visitors in to bat and Dumfries intentions were made clear when Scott Beveridge smashed three sixes in the second over. He carried on hitting boundaries but was run out for 42 with the side on 67 for 2 in just the 7th over.

APD Dumfries remained the only unbeaten side in National League Division 2 with a four wicket win over Freuchie at Nunholm on Saturday. Eighteen year old opener Tom McBride steered his side to victory with a score of 102 not out chasing the Freuchie total of 214 for 9. Josh Geary provided the necessary support with 56 and also took three wickets as did Jerry Goodin.

Dumfries decided to let Freuchie bat first and when the openers, Birrell (RT) and Birrell (SJ) eased past fifty in the 15th over that decision looked doubtful. However Patterson and Beveridge bowled five overs conceding just one run and then the introduction of the fifth bowler tried, Geary, immediately brought a result with keeper Corbett-Byers taking a catch in his first over to make it 62 for one with the innings nearing the half-way point.

Likewise leg-spinner Jerry Goodin came on at the other end and the pair proceeded to remove the top five. Goodin took three wickets and Geary trapped RT Birrell lbw for 35. Read the rest of this entry »
