The Olympic Torch visited Dumfries Sports Club yesterday.

Cricket: Player carries the Olympic Torch

Rosy carrying the torch through Dumfries

The Olympic Torch relay started from Dumfries on Thursday and one of the torch bearers was Rosy Ryan, a member of the Sports Club, who plays for the Dumfries Cricket Club Women’s team.

She was nominated for, amongst other things, her coaching of girls’ football and her enthusiasm for coaching junior sport. She was also one of the five torch bearers that celebrated the torch volunteers at a ceremony down in London in March.

She has brought that same enthusiasm to cricket which she only took up at the end of last summer. Rosy was an inportant member of the side that won the Cricket Scotland Peebles Women’s Indoor Sixes at a first attempt and as a result she was invited to the Scotland age group training sessions over the winter.

She has also demonstrated that enthusiasm for coaching and helped the club by assisting with a cricket taster session at a local primary school Olympics day recently.

So it was runs at Nunholm on Tuesday (24 not out in a win in the Scottish Women’s Cup) and a run up Annan Road with the Olympic Torch on Thursday. And no drops!

Nunholm’s Got Talent – this Saturday

Sat: 23rd June from 7:30. Talent contest and disco. Tickets £6.

If you have talent and can face the judging panel enter by contacting Carol and Dougie to enter. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. More entries sought.

If you admit you haven’t got talent come along anyway. Disco starts at 7:30 and will break for the contest when some cricketers with talent (who?!) return from their away game.

May Tote result

The May Tote numbers drawn on Saturday were 23 and 28. There were no winners this month.

The prize fund for June is £350 and the draw will be Sat 30th. That makes for the biggest monthly prize for the Tote!

Tickets can be bought from behind the bar.

Red carpet for Fitness Suite refurbishment

The Sports Club’s Fitness Suite has undergone a significant refurbishment over April. New equipment is now in place with older equipment removed, the carpeting replaced and the walls repainted.

The club has invested in five newly refurbished Life Fitness machines for the gym. The three single station strength machines are part of the very popular Signature range. These machines have been designed with the user in mind and are used throughout Britain by the largest gyms. Added to this are two cardio machines which are completely powered by human movement and come packed with the latest technology to help the users perform to their maximum.

Have a look and more importantly make use of the improved facilities at the club.

March Tote Draw

The numbers drawn on Friday for the Sports Club March Tote were 27 and 29. There was no winner this month and there is a roll over to the April draw with a guaranteed prize of £200. April tickets can be purchased at the bar or you can also enter for the remainder of the membership year. Just ask.
