Tennis Dumfries & Galloway
The last round of the Dumfries and Galloway Junior league matches takes place this Saturday, the 22nd August, and the teams are converging on Nunholm.
The courts are booked from 10 – 4 and the Dumfries Tennis Club junior team is taking part.

Held last month at the Dumfries Sports Club, for the first time this tournament started on a Friday night as there was such a large entry with players from across the region taking part.
As always the tournament was played in a great atmosphere with some exceptional play on the Nunholm courts.
The under 10 Boys singles final saw a strong performance from the club’s Alex Shearman winning 5-1against Callum Kerr.
One of the most exciting matches of the day was the under 12 Boys singles final between two from Nunholm, Alex Shearman and Sam Copeland. With the boys tied at one set each they played a very close deciding tie break with Alex coming out on top 1-5, 5-4, 10-8.
The under 14 singles was contested by two more from the club, Duncan Muir and Sophie Robinson. Duncan showed the improvement he has made to take the title 6-3, 6-0.
For the third year in a row the under 16 boy’s singles was between Sergio Meola and Jordan Kerr. However this time there was no home win as Sergio was too strong for Jordan winning 6-0, 6-0.
This year the under 18 boys singles final was between Jack Copeland and Sergio Meola. Considering he had been at his school prom the night before Jack gave a strong performance winning 7- 5, 6 – 3 to claim another title for Dumfries Tennis Club.
The under 12 girls final was between Rhona Park and Nicole McDonald with Rhona winning 5-1, 5-1.
In the under 16 girls Sophie Robinson came through very strongly against Blythe Aitken to win 8-0.

The South of Scotland over 35’s Team has been selected to travel to Eastbourne over the weekend of 31st July to 2nd August with the team almost exclusively coming from Dumfries & Galloway which is an excellent achievement for this area.
The team comprises Geoff Legg of Stewartry Community Sports Club, Brian Litster of Dalbeattie Tennis Club, Lister McKiddie and Colin Dunbar of Dumfries Tennis Club and Gordon McGuigan of Western Tennis Club in Glasgow.
All Counties in Great Britain go Eastbourne to play on the hallowed grass courts and this year South of Scotland takes on Wiltshire, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands and the team will hopefully have a successful event.

Saturday 4th July. STARTING AFTER THE WIMBLEDON WOMENS SINGLES FINAL (Approx 4-30 to 5pm start)
All Dumfries Sports Club members are invited to take part in the BBQ & Bubbles Mixed Doubles Tournament.
This is a free to enter tournament with a BBQ, food and drink available to buy courtside, during and after the tournament.
This is a fun and friendly mixed doubles based competition, providing we get enough ladies, where we will pair partners depending on their ability.

Entries are open to paid up members of Dumfries Sport Club.
Ties to be played during June, July, and August with the Finals Day planned for Saturday 29th August.
“Play by” dates will be set and enforced for each round.
There are 9 Senior and 11 Junior events (see entry forms for details of all events) with an entrants fee of £2.00 for each event.
The last date for entries is Monday 8th June with the draw being made by Friday 12th June.

Join in the Dumfries Tennis Club Nights
A new second Tennis Club night is starting up on Thursday evenings at 7pm from Thursday the 4th of June.
These are running from June to August and are open to any senior male members who have the ability to play doubles matches. You can come along at 7.00pm until whenever suits, to play competitive sets with other players.
This is in addition to the normal Monday night club nights from 6:30pm and follows on from the Junior Club Night which finishes at 6:30 earlier on Thursdays.
