Queen’s semi delays cricket season

11 04 2008

APD Dumfries play their first game of the new cricket season on Sunday in a friendly fixture away against Carlisle. This was due to be played on Saturday but Queen’s Scottish Cup semi-final means that half the team are on a bus to Hampden instead.

Amongst these will be the club’s young Australian player this season, J Geary, who lands on Friday and finds himself on the football terraces on Saturday. After this abrupt introduction to Scotland, and probably its weather, he has to contend with jet-lag and some foreign cricket conditions the day after.

This is the first of three friendly matches before the first eleven start their Scottish National League campaign at home at Nunholm on the 26th.

Evening practice is now underway at Dumfries CC on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:30pm onwards. Anyone interested in playing is welcome to come down to Nunholm and make themselves known. Further details are available from Trefor Williams on 01387 256455 and at www.dumfriescricketclub.co.uk.
