Opening win over Prestwick

5 05 2008

Six v Queens ParkThe firsts, APD Dumfries, won their opening National League fixture by 6 wickets away at Prestwick on Saturday. Scott Beveridge took three wickets and Stuart Corbett-Byers scored 45 in an excellent bowling and fielding display (Prestwick 136 all out, APD Dumfries 138-4 39.3 overs).

This was the headline of the weekend but perhaps the story was the age of the Seconds and Sunday sides which justifies the youth policy at the club. Five were 19 or under in the seconds and the average age of the Sunday side must have been about 20 and it wasn’t a case of making up numbers.

The seconds, JMS Nunholm, came away with a draw (and 10 points) against Ayr 2nds in their Western Union league match (Cambusdoon 230-8 , 50 overs, JMS Nunholm 184-8, 50 overs). Trefor Williams scored 50, Tony Weeks 43 and Robert McBride 36 and 3 wickets but the story was a good performance from an inexperienced bowling attack with five aged 19 or under.

The Sunday XI lost their first ever Western Union Sunday league match in a 35 over match against Queens Park (Garrison Nunholm 124 all out in 35 overs , Geary  42 (see photo), Queens Park 127/3 in 27 overs).
