Hockey: Dumfries Ladies 2nds hit Eight

7 09 2010

Dumfries were a little rusty to start with and although camped out in the visitors half were unable to convert any of the chances they had in the first 15 minutes.

However when Janet Stainsby scored the first goal it gave a little bit of confidence and soon some great team play was to be seen. This had the opposite effect on the visiting side who just could not contend with the skilful passing of the Dumfries side. By half time it was 4-0 and by full time a fabulous 8-0 win for the home team.

The amazing tally of goals are attributed to Janet Stainsby – 4 goals, most of which were brilliantly picked up at the back post and slotted past the keeper, Gladys McClymont – 3 goals one of which was a well worked set piece at a short corner, with Gladys dragging out then rushing in to deflect the strike from Angie Beattie past the keeper. Gillian Young – 1 goal, a beautifully struck ball past the keeper.

There were a couple of real close shaves from Erin McGinley and Belinda Davidson which could easily have taken the score into double figures and they gave amazing support throughout along with Maimie Sloan, Kirsty Laidlaw and the almost redundant defence of Hayley Skinner, Gail Edgar and Anne Lees and of course Joyce Rammel who was good enough to help out in goal at the last minute.

Many thanks to umpires Bob Lees and John McCoskry. The opposition awarded Angie Beattie player of the match however the Captain’s player of the match goes to Belinda Davidson who played so well after a 10 year break!

Score: Dumfries Ladies II 8, (yes, Eight!) – Giffnock 0
Goal Scorers: Janet Stainsby 4, Gladys McClymont 3, Gillian Young 1
