Cricket: Dumfries undone by Uddingston

26 06 2013

APD Dumfries produced a below par performance in their loss at Nunholm to league leaders Uddingston in the Western Premier League on Saturday.

Dumfries were put in to bat and, with runs proving difficult to get, had reached 58 for 1 in the 22nd over when opener, and Glasgow University Crichton Man of the Match, Alan Davidson was caught for the top score of 31. Three more wickets fell for just five runs and the innings was struggling. Scott Beveridge resisted with 27 but the Uddingston bowlers nagged away with Reddy taking 3 for 12 as Dumfries were all out for 135.

The necessary early wickets didn’t materialise as Dumfries pressed too hard for the wicket taking delivery and Uddingston profited. Opener Rai was first out with the score on 58 and fellow opener Gul was caught off McCutcheon for 35 at the hundred mark. The winning total was reached for the loss of three wickets with pro Priyadashrana not out on 44 for a comfortable win for the visitors.

On Saturday, the Scottish Cup resumes with APD Dumfries away at Ferguslie.

During the week Niall Alexander opened the bowling for the Scotland Development XI against the MCC, taking two wickets, and was also selected for the upcoming games for Scotland U17s, and along with Peter Lojszczyk named for the Western Warriors 20/20 Pro Series match at Titwood in Glasgow on Thursday.

On Sunday, Dumfries Women won at home against Galloway in the National League. Dumfries set an imposing target reaching 144 for 1 in their twenty overs. Opener Kirsty Strachan claimed the Parkdale Garage Dumfries Player of the Match hitting 70 not out and was well supported by Rachel Howard with 33 not out. Strachan and Rosy Ryan bowled well to take two wickets each as Galloway reached forty nine in reply. The Club’s Women’s coaching sessions take place on Friday evenings.

The APD Dumfries Western Premier league match at West of Scotland had to be cancelled, meanwhile at Nunholm, Dumfries 2nds, Eco-Genics Nunholm, batted first against Partick in the Western Premier Reserve League.

Youngster Chris McBride was the Nith Place Dental Practice Man of the Match in a win over Galloway by the Sunday XI, Good Man Dumfries, at Nunholm. He hit 43, aided by a fifty from Peter Lojszczyk, in a Dumfries score of 179 for 9. He also took four wickets as Galloway fell short with Anton Vosloo their top scorer with 58.

APD Dumfries next play league leaders Uddingston at home on Saturday, the seconds are at Bothwell and Dumfries Women play Galloway at home on Sunday.

Dumfries’s Niall Alexander had an all-round performance for Western Warriors U18s with two wickets and 30 runs in a loss to the Eastern U18s in Edinburgh last week. He was also selected for the Scotland Development XI in their 3-day game this week against the MCC at Stirling.

Dumfries teams notched up two convincing wins against their Ayr counterparts on Saturday.

In the Western Premier league APD Dumfries dismissed Ayr for 175 on a sunny Sponsors and Ladies Day at Nunholm.

Young pace bowler Niall Alexander claimed four wickets, Alan Davidson three, and the D&G Fire Man of the Match, Peter Lojszczyk took two wickets in a sustained opening spell.

Then an unpromising start for Dumfries had both openers gone within four overs, however Todd Griffiths and Chris Bellwood steadied matters with a century stand. Griffiths was out for 41 but Chris Bellwood, with 72 not out, steered the side to a seven wicket win and with fifteen overs to spare. Skipper Scott Beveridge was also there at the end after a hard hitting 33 and Club sponsors, Newbie firm APD, were in attendance to mark their side’s win and also their eighth year of Dumfries sponsorship and support.

Eco-Genics Nunholm, the Dumfries Second XI, managed to be back to see that finish, after they had dismissed Cambusdoon for 71 all out in the Western Premier Reserve League. Stuart Alexander took four wickets for the K Carlyle Building Man of the Match and Jerry Goodin took three. The winning runs were hit in only the twelfth over with Chris Brockwell scoring 25 and youngster Dean Brotherston a rapid 21 for another seven wicket win on the day.

The Sunday XI, Goodman Dumfries, lost to Poloc at home in the Sunday League with nine balls left. Dumfries hit 198 for 9 and Dave Strachan took the Molplant Construction Man of the Match scoring 53 to add to Chris Brockwell’s 45. However overseas amateur Allcock marshalled the Poloc innings and finished with 92 not out for their four wicket win.
