After five wickets were down in the fifties it needed a fighting fifty partnership from Jim Patterson with 29 and Jerry Goodin with 23 to rescue the side from a perilous 99 for 7. Only opener Alan Davidson got past twenty with 27 and the side needed to bowl and field well to defend the all out total of 160.
The spin of Scott Beveridge was needed to get rid of the two openers and a fine opening spell from Jim Patterson removed numbers 4 and 5. However their South African professional, Van Wyk (47no), found a partner in Fleming (41no) and 81 for 4 was the best it got for Dumfries as they went down by 6 wickets. Read the rest of this entry »

Stuart Corbett-Byers provided a run feast in APD Dumfries’s ten wicket win over St Boswells in the Scottish 20/20 Cup on Sunday.
Chasing a total of 93 he amassed a score of 78 not out in just 12 overs. The die was cast for St Boswells when he hit the first over for 18.
Thereafter they failed to subdue him as he sent spectators diving for covers with a spate of sizes and fours.
However St Boswells could claim the sixes of the day with two being launched out of the ground, over the Nunholm road and disturbing the Sunday diners at the Casa Mia.
Despite that Dumfries contained their innings to below five an over on a good wicket with both Robert McBride and Jerry Goodin taking two wickets apiece.
This followed on from nearly another ten wicket win at Nunholm over Renfrew in National League Division 2. Read the rest of this entry »

Davy Rogan
He is currently the Scottish National over 70’s and over 75’s Squash Champion for 2009 and puts everyone’s dates for sporting retiral into stark perspective.
An extract from the nomination written by the squash section is reproduced below.
Davy’s illustrious sports career began in 1954! He was a keen and talented badminton player and success came to him in the 50’s when, as a junior, he retained the South of Scotland Senior Singles Champion title for 8 years. He then won the Scottish under 21 singles and doubles titles in 1954 and represented Scotland against Ireland and senior Scottish team vs The RAF. Read the rest of this entry »

Thomas McBride from Dumfries Cricket Club was selected yesterday for Scotland U19s in their match against Durham Academy at Uddingston.
He bowled well to claim two wickets. He and Willie Rowan, formerly of Prestwick and now Greenock CC, were the sole representatives from the Western Region in the XI.
Congratulations from the Sports Club on adding to the Scotland representatives across the various sections who ply their sport at Nunholm.
APD Dumfries finally get to play a home fixture in the Murgitroyd Scottish Twenty/20 Cup on Sunday. This competition was introduced last season when Dumfries were successful in winning the Borders section and playing, but losing, in the semi-final to eventual winners Carlton.
In the first round this time they play St Boswells who they beat in the Borders final last year. For the quickest form of the game, Dumfries have opted for youth with an average team age of 23. Skipper Scott Beveridge and vice-captain Stuart Corbett-Byers are in to provide the cricketing wisdom and Scotland U19 and U17 picks, Chris Bellwood and Tommy McBride, are present to lead their contemporaries.
The game starts at 2pm, finishes by 4:30, and Sports Club members, juniors, supporters and spectators are very welcome at Nunholm to view some 20/20 cricket from the comfort of the bar. See www.dumfriescricketclub.co.uk for information. Read the rest of this entry »
