The Border TV cameras were trained on court 3 today as the Squash club’s Scotland representatives showed off their paces on the court below.

Sue Strachan and Jimmy Wells were there fresh from their trip to Wales for the Masters Home Internationals and Davy Rogan and Abbie Robertson are due in Dublin for their competition on Friday.

Scotland’s captain reports from Wales

It was with great excitement that the Nunholm squash contingent arrived at the Welsh Institute of Sport on Friday for a quick practice to get used to the courts prior to the start of the Masters Home Internationals. Warm and true they suited us well.

5 pm arrived and we were on court against Wales who were keen to win on home soil. With the gents team playing on the court beside us we supported each other. Read the rest of this entry »





Testing away league trips for Dumfries

The home SNCL match against RH Corstorphine on Saturday was called off due to the rain. Two matches were completed in the league with wins for Dunfermline Knights and Edinburgh over Stoneywood-Dyce and Weirs respectively so Dumfries are playing catch-up already.

This coming Saturday the firsts, APD Dumfries, play away at Preswick and the seconds, JMS Nunholm, start their Western Union league campaign away at Ayr 2nds. The Sunday side, Garrison Nunholm, play in the Western Union Sunday league for the first time at home against Queens Park. Read the rest of this entry »

Jordan selected for Cumbria

Eighteen year-old Jordan Currie from Dumfries, has been selected to represent Cumbria for the U19 Boys to take part in the prestigious Northern Cup, which takes place in Cheshire in May.

Jordan is a member of Nunholm and Carlisle squash clubs and is currently studying PE at Edinburgh University. Read the rest of this entry »





Hollywood Stroll Race

One of the most popular races on the local calendar is the five-mile Holywood Stroll race. Organised by Dumfries Running Club, this year’s event will be held on Tuesday, May 13 with a starting time of 7pm.

Entries are available from 6.15pm onwards at Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm on the night of the race at a cost of £3 (£5 for those not affiliated to the SAF) for adults and £1 for juniors aged over 15. Read the rest of this entry »

THE MOST high-profile road race in the world, the London marathon, was a target for nine members of Dumfries Running Club.

Andy Murray’s Mum joins in with Tennis Family Fun Day

Sunday, 27th April. 11am – 2pm. Parents and children wanted! No need to be an accomplished player! All Sports Club members and non-members welcome alike. So if you are a junior, tennis or otherwise, member or not, then drag your family along.

If you want to be the next Andy Murray then you can ask his mum Judy Murray, LTA talent and performance manager for Scotland, who will be there offering advice.

Fun games and competitions. Raffle prizes and refreshments. No need to have your own racquet. Bring all the family.





Band and BBQ, Sat 26th April 7:30pm

To mark the first SNCL league fixture of the cricket season there is a Band, BBQ and late licence on Saturday evening after the game against RH Corstorphine at Nunholm. All sports club members are welcome. So it should start around 7:30 with a small cover charge to provide the music.





Nunholm Squash Masters enter the fray for Scotland

This Friday sees the start of the Masters Squash Home Internationals in Wales (25/26th April) and that means that several players from Nunholm Squash Club will be stepping onto the court for Scotland against England, Wales and Ireland.

Jimmy Wells and Robin Ridley are playing in the Scotland over-45 team, and Sue Strachan is in the Scotland over-40 team. As Club Chairman Sue says “it’s exciting”.

The next round involving Dumfries Sports Club members is in Ireland on the 3rd/4th May when Davy Rogan plays for Scotland over-70s and Abbie Robertson for the over-65 team.

And finally Sue Strachan is in action again, this time at home in Scotland, for the over-35 team on 16th/17th May.





Clean sweep on first cricket weekend

The club played a series of friendlies over the first cricket weekend at Nunholm and won all three.  The firsts beat Premier League side Ferguslie by 6 wickets. Stuart Corbett-Byers smashed a 50 in 23 balls! On Sunday they played Hillhead and won by 8 wickets with 50s for Chris Bellwood and Davie Davidson. Meanwhile the seconds were playing at St Michaels and won by 8 wickets (Trefor Williams 48).

The National league fixtures start, at home, on Saturday with a 1pm start against RH Corstorphine followed by a BBQ and Band. The Sunday XI also play at home with a friendly against Langholm, 1:30 start.





Super Byo Goes Ballistic

Four, then six, then 4On Saturday, APD Dumfries played a 40 over friendly against Premier League side Ferguslie at JMS Nunholm. The opposition was a mix of first and second XI players and wasn’t strong enough for an efficient Dumfries team. Read the rest of this entry »
