Congratulations to Backswing on winning the Dumfries and Galloway Squash League 1st Division  title and also the Bard Vet Cup.

The DG 2nd Division title went to N.F.U. We wish them well in the first division next year. Final leagues tables and results are here.

The oxygen of publicity – on the BBC Radio Scotland Sportsweekly sports round-up today: “Cricket clubs round Scotland are warming-up for the league season with fixtures this weekend.  Dumfries play their first match of the season against Premiership side Ferguslie on Saturday and play Western Union Division One side Hillhead on Sunday.





2008 Junior Cricket starts at Nunholm

TopClub Development ProgrammeJunior cricket nights restart next Monday, the 21st, at Dumfries Cricket Club at Nunholm. The coaching sessions for juniors start at 6:15pm until 8:00 in the evening. They are open to all Sports Club members and non-members and to boys and girls. Premiership opposition for Dumfries CC

After last week’s cancellation at Carlisle, the first cricket of the season for APD Dumfries, and the first home game at JMS Nunholm, is a tough friendly against Premier League side Ferguslie.

Ferguslie narrowly missed out on winning the Scottish Premier League last season and finished as runners-up. The corresponding fixture last year produced some big hitting from two of their Scotland players, World Cup all-rounder Majid Haq and middle-order batsman Omer Hussain and runs from their South African professional Con De Lange. Queen’s semi delays cricket season

APD Dumfries play their first game of the new cricket season on Sunday in a friendly fixture away against Carlisle. This was due to be played on Saturday but Queen’s Scottish Cup semi-final means that half the team are on a bus to Hampden instead.

Amongst these will be the club’s young Australian player this season, J Geary, who lands on Friday and finds himself on the football terraces on Saturday. After this abrupt introduction to Scotland, and probably its weather, he has to contend with jet-lag and some foreign cricket conditions the day after. Read the rest of this entry »





Tennis Club Nights start Mon, 14th Apr

Tennis Club Nights will begin on Monday April 14 from 6:30pm onwards and will continue each Monday thereafter. The atmosphere is very relaxed and is open to adults and juniors who can play matches on a full court. The format depends on who turns up on the night and can be ladies or mens doubles and/or mixed doubles.

Awards herald new cricket season

The Annual Dumfries Cricket Club Awards were held at the Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm last weekend. A big turnout, including major sponsors APD and JMS, saw the four main club awards presented.

2008 Cricket AwardsThe winner of the First Eleven Player of the Year award went to Davie Davidson for a season which saw him the club’s top run scorer in the Scottish National League with 424 runs at an average of just over 30, backed up with 19 wickets with the side’s best bowling strike rate and average.  Read the rest of this entry »

Dumfries Sports Club Quiz, Sat 29th March ’08

There is a Sports Club Quiz night on Saturday evening, 29th March at 7:30pm. This is open to all sections and includes a buffet. Teams of 4, and of all ages. Families welcome. Cost is £5 a head (to pay for the buffet). Any profit will be donated to charity.

Names of those interested can be added to the list behind the bar. Money will be collected on the night. 





Easter Cricket Coaching Camp, 7-10 April

There is a Cricket Scotland Coaching Camp taking place in Dumfries from Monday the 7th April to Thursday 10th April for girls and boys aged between 8 and 13 years (at the David Keswick Centre). Details here

This follows on from the successful 3-day Cricket Scotland summer camp which took place at the club last year.
