Junior Squash Club Championships – Sun 30th March

The Junior Squash Club Championships are on Sunday, the 30th March. Matches start 12 noon – Final 5pm. Eye protection/refreshments are provided. Enter on the squash noticeboard. Closing date for entries is Tuesday, 25th March.





Squash Club Dance, Sat 19th April ’08

The Squash Club Dance will be held on Saturday, the 19th April 2008 in the clubhouse. Tickets will be available from behind the bar shortly. There will be a £50 prize ticket draw at 2130hrs. You must be in it to win it and be there to collect.





Squash Club Championship play-by dates

Due to the lateness of the draw please keep a sharp lookout for the play-by dates for the Club Championship. In order to complete the competition there could be day by day completion dates. If there are any problems please contact Sue Strachan, Peter Allan or Raymond Currie as soon as possible.

The draw will be up by Friday, 7th of March!





Club’s Squash players selected for Scotland

The Scottish Masters Closed Championships took place last weekend in Aberdeen and had a strong representation from the Nunholm Squash Club.

Davy Rogan showed that 70 is the new 40 by winning the over-70 National Championships to add to his East and Central titles. Sue Strachan finished runner-up in the over-35 and over-40 competition.

As a result of Masters’ performances five players from the squash section have been selected to play for Scotland in the upcoming Home Internationals.

Jimmy Wells and Robin Ridley were picked for the over-45 team, Abbie Robertson for the over-65’s, Davy Rogan for the over-70’s and Sue Strachan for the over-40 and over-35 teams.





Jim Thorburn Competition reaches second round

The Jim Thorburn Handicap Competition has reached the second round. Matches must be played by the 16th March please!





Nunholm Squash Masters go North

The Scottish Masters Closed Championships are on this weekend in Aberdeen and will have a strong representation from the Nunholm Squash Club.

Sue Strachan in the over-35 and over-40’s women’s competitions hopes to be well placed and has a full weekend with five tough matches to play. Les Harkness is the club’s sole representative at over-40’s and Jim Wells moves on to join Ronnie Carter in the over-45’s in the largest of all the age group draws. Abbie Robertson hopes to catch the eye of the selectors at over-65 and Davy Rogan ,who is the reigning Scottish champion and number 1, hopes to hang on to his title despite strong opposition by “the young guy” in the draw who is “only 70”! The club wishes them good luck in their trek north.

Squash junior clubnight dates

Please note that the squash junior clubnights will NOT take place on the Sunday nights listed below. The dates involved are mostly over the Easter and school holidays.

2nd March, and the 23rd March, 30th March and 6th April.

They will resume on Sunday the 13th April, the day before going back to school.

Chairman’s Birthday Bash

Squash Birthday Bash 17 Feb ‘08There was no respite for the bar staff at the weekend. After the full-house at the Friday Poker night they were faced with the 24 participants in the Squash Chairman’s Birthday Bash handicap event on Saturday night. This time it was Soup and Salad rather than Bottles of Beer but resulted in another busy night. Rumours that the Chairman is to institute an official birthday in order to arrange another event have been denied by her spokesperson.





Central Scotland Squash Masters

The squash masters were at it again this weekend, this time in the Bridge of Allan Open Masters Tournament. Once more they figured in the finals.

Davy Rogan repeated his East of Scotland victory by winning the over 70’s event. Sue Strachan was beaten again in a Masters final in the Ladies’ over 35 event but is hopeful that the results will put her in a good position to be selected when the Scottish National  teams are announced in March.

Nunholm hopes to have representatives at several Scotland age groups for the
Home Internationals in May 2008.





Sunglasses for courts 3 and 4

Squash courts 3 and 4 have had the repair work completed. With the walls repainted and the floors sanded players are advised to bring along their sunglasses.





East of Scotland Squash Masters

In the East of Scotland Open Masters Tournament this weekend, at the Edinburgh Sports Club, players from the squash section were right up there amongst the best.

Davy Rogan triumphed in the over 70’s event to become East Champion outclassing his opposition on the way to the title. Robin Ridley won the East of
Scotland over 50’s Open comfortably and Sue Strachan was pipped at the post coming runner-up in the Ladies’ over 35 event.
