Queen’s semi delays cricket season

APD Dumfries play their first game of the new cricket season on Sunday in a friendly fixture away against Carlisle. This was due to be played on Saturday but Queen’s Scottish Cup semi-final means that half the team are on a bus to Hampden instead.

Amongst these will be the club’s young Australian player this season, J Geary, who lands on Friday and finds himself on the football terraces on Saturday. After this abrupt introduction to Scotland, and probably its weather, he has to contend with jet-lag and some foreign cricket conditions the day after. Read the rest of this entry »





Awards herald new cricket season

The Annual Dumfries Cricket Club Awards were held at the Dumfries Sports Club at Nunholm last weekend. A big turnout, including major sponsors APD and JMS, saw the four main club awards presented.

2008 Cricket AwardsThe winner of the First Eleven Player of the Year award went to Davie Davidson for a season which saw him the club’s top run scorer in the Scottish National League with 424 runs at an average of just over 30, backed up with 19 wickets with the side’s best bowling strike rate and average.  Read the rest of this entry »





Easter Cricket Coaching Camp, 7-10 April

There is a Cricket Scotland Coaching Camp taking place in Dumfries from Monday the 7th April to Thursday 10th April for girls and boys aged between 8 and 13 years (at the David Keswick Centre). Details here

This follows on from the successful 3-day Cricket Scotland summer camp which took place at the club last year.





John Blain visit postponed to Saturday, 22nd March

Due to a horrible weather forecast for tomorrow (consistent heavy rain) the visit by Scotland player John Blain to the cricket club tomorrow for a coaching clinic has been postponed by 2 weeks. He will be down instead on Saturday the 22nd March as per the same arrangements, and he will also bring down any equipment ordered or requested then. We hope that this date does not give problems to anyone wanting to attend.

APD Dumfries set their sights on a new season

Dumfries Cricket Club start their outdoor practices at JMS Nunholm with a training session for the first team squad this Saturday, the 1st of March, at 1pm.

New Skipper Scott Beveridge warms upLast season the side, APD Dumfries, had a late season run to take them to the edge of the promotion places in Division 2 of the Lloyds TSB Scotland National League and finish in a good fourth place position.

This season, new skipper, Aussie Scott Beveridge is out to bring his country’s winning ways to the campaign and for the club to remain as contenders for promotion as they have managed over their first two years at national level.

Scotland’s John Blain, as their Cricket Manager will be selling cricket gear from Gilmour Sports of Glasgow (hockey and cricket specialists), at the club on Saturday, the 8th of March, from 1pm. Further details here.





Scotland Bowling Masterclass at Nunholm – Sat 8th March

The club have asked him to visit Dumfries to give the many promising youngsters at the club some advice and inspiration from his experience of the professional game before their season starts in earnest. Saturday 1st March: 12:30pm to 6:30 pm
Sunday 2nd March: 12:30pm to 2:30pm
Monday 3rd – Friday 7th March: 7pm to 9pm

Annual Cricket Dinner – Friday, 28th March

The Annual Dumfries Cricket Club Dinner will take place on Friday, the 28th March at the Casa Mia restaurant opposite the clubhouse. It is at 18:45 for a 19:00 start to sort out the stragglers.

The cost is £15 a head. This provides for a three course meal and is payable on the night. It will also be an opportunity to thank the club sponsors for their much appreciated support of the cricket club. Read the rest of this entry »

As the Grease soundtrack merged into the subconscious, while it played on Dakota Dave’s Sky music channel, an excellent turn-out of thirty three players started out on the odyssey that is the cricket club Poker Challenge.

Local cricket course for coaches and helpers

An ICC Introduction to Cricket course is to be held on Sunday, 30th March at Dalbeattie Sports Centre for the D&G region. The course will be delivered by Cricket Scotland.

The club are keen to encourage participants from the club to attend. The course details and aims are provided below. So if you have had limited instruction in cricket coaching or cricket and help out with the club’s junior cricket and coaching or would like to this season then please sign-up.

The club intend to cover the cost of the course for those from Dumfries CC. So if you are interested then contact Trefor Williams at the club. Places will be limited so please sign-up early.

APD Dumfries draw Heriots in the Cup

The cricket 1st XI, APD Dumfries, are away to Heriots in the first round of the Lloyds TSB Scotland Scottish Cup which was drawn today. The Scottish Cup is restricted to the top 30 sides in Scotland. The Dumfries side play the Premier League team at the Goldenacre ground in Edinburgh on Sunday June 1st.
