With only ten players travelling and tropical weather conditions Dumfries were faced with a challenging opening match against a young Hillhead team.
Good linking play from midfield and attack led to some early opportunities that threatened the Hillhead keeper and gave Dumfries a strong start. For first twenty minutes they continued to test the defence and Topping won an early corner for the side, which was unlucky to not produce a goal.
Hillhead then applied pressure for the remainder of the half and used their extra player well to expose the gap in midfield and over load the defence.
