1 11 2008The Dumfries and Galloway Squash Closed Championships are to be played at Dumfries Sports Club, Nunholm the week commencing Monday the 1st December 2008.

Squash: Trio head north for national junior open
1 11 2008Three junior members of Nunholm Squash Club are entered into the Central Regional Junior Open at Bridge of Allan Squash Club this weekend.
Iain Anderson, aged 16, 15-year-old Douglas Brotherston and 11-year-old Dean Brotherston will compete against players from across Scotland in the event.
The competition is an A-graded event in the Scottish Squash calendar so will feature the best junior players throughout the country.
All three boys are regular members of the club’s popular nights held every Sunday between 7pm and 9pm at Nunholm Squash Club which is part of Dumfries Sports Club. Read the rest of this entry »

- There is a £2 entry fee for all events (no name on list until fee paid)
- Finals week for all competitions is 20th-22nd March.

D&G Squash Leagues set to start

John Henderson and Sons - D&G Squash League sponsors
The new squash season is underway and the regular Dumfries and Galloway Squash Leagues, again kindly sponsored by John Henderson & Sons, will begin after the school holidays.
There will be two leagues again this year with five teams in Division 1 and six teams in Division 2.
The Cisco kids, the new team on the block!
Backswing will be defending the Division 1 title with newly promoted Noblehill Garage one of the teams chasing.
In Division 2 it is wide open but the thriving Castle Douglas Squash Club has two teams entered and maybe the ones to watch.
A new team for this season in Division 2 will by sponsored by Cisco Systems. The team, which is captained by Raymond Currie, will try and field as many of Nunholm Squash Club’s younger squash players. Read the rest of this entry »

Davy Douglas of Backswing views the new court 2 advertising
The newly refurbished Blue court 2 at Dumfries Sports Club now has a new tin sponsor. Backswing, the main agent for Karakal Rackets and Equipment for Dumfries and Galloway and operated by Davy Douglas, are now the principal advertisers on Court 2.
Davy, who is a long-standing member of the club and was heavily involved on the Nunholm Squash Club committee for many years as secretary, was delighted with the new court tin.
He said: “The continuing improvements of the courts are a credit to the hard work of the present squash club committee. The squash playing members of the club have given Backswing tremendous support over the years. October Fest Triumph
6 10 2008A team representing Dumfries Sports Club won an international squash competition at Edinburgh Sports Club. The October Fest is played ervery year and this is the second time Dumfries has won the team event. Winter Squash Leagues 08/09
30 09 2008The winter leagues for October are up and can be found here, Club Squash Leagues (Or by following the Quick Link at the top right of the page under the link for booking courts).
We will retain the normal scoring for the Winter leagues that is point on serve to 9 then at 8 each a choice of one or two to be decided by the player at 8 first.

Your invitation to make a racket!

Preparing to make a racket: Sue Strachan, George O'Neill, Carol Brotherston
Nunholm Squash Club which is part of the premier multi-sports facility based at Dumfries Sports Club is offering an open invitation for anyone to come and try out RACKETBALL.
The club have organised 2 “COME AND TRY” evenings at the club the first on Thursday 2nd October from 7pm. All equipment will be provided to try out RACKETBALL and Davy Douglas of BACKSWING will be in attendance with demo rackets and balls.
Everyone is welcome and potential new members will be able to see what other facilities the club have to offer such as fully equipped gym, 4 floodlight tennis courts, and lounge bar facilities.
RACKETBALL is one of the fastest growing sports today and has the benefit of being played on a standard squash court – to which Dumfries Sports Club have 4 and of those, 3 have just gone through a process of refurbishment to a high standard. Read the rest of this entry »

Junior Squash to build on its Success

Junior squash restarts at Nunholm
The popular Junior Squash Clubnight has restarted at Nunholm Squash Club and takes place on Sunday nights between 7pm and 9pm.
The club has been lucky enough to have had a good crop of juniors coming through over the last few years. The most recent success on a National level saw Steven Wallace and Jordan Currie being ranked in the Top 10 in Scotland in their respective age groups.
